From the video, it looks like she and the Blast were in the same weight class.

Are MSF course accidents that common? When I took the BRC a few years back, there wasn't a single incident, not even a close call or even anything remotely dangerous. I always thought the stories of people dying taking the BRC was due to heat stroke rather than being bike related.

Hm.

Learning to ride a motorcycle.

Risk of bodily damage.

I fail to see the disconnect there. It's called....wait for it.....

PHYSICS!!!

Somebody needs to explain to that Quack guy that EVERYBODY on a motorcycle hits the ground eventually. She's just "ahead of the curve", and damned lucky she was only on the ground for four minutes.

Not everybody "deserves" to ride.

Not everybody is coordinated enough to ride.

Sux she's embarrassed about falling into the "not" category...but them's genetics at work there.

No motorcycle would be safe with someone of that body type riding it. Not sure I would even recommend a Spyder to someone who looks like they have trouble walking down the street. Yes I may be a little shallow, but sometimes the truth hurts like this.

If you can't ride a blast, you can't ride. I took the MSF BRC at Offutt AFB and during the lunch break jumped back and forth experimenting with the Nighthawk, Rebel, Blast, and Virago. The blast is every bit as small as the other bikes, and is much easier to handle.

Woah, woah, woah...

Quack says "...the company knew his 4-foot 11-inch client was too small for the bike they put her on."

Like she didn't know this on her own?? I am betting she was insistant that she be allowed to ride anyways.

Quack says; The woman had already had a spill the day before..."

So when does it become HER responsibilty to determine she can't ride???

Quack says; “The waiver is not worth the paper that it is written on.”

I think I need to hire Quack and have him represent me against my mortgage company as obviously that document isn't worth the paper it's written on either...

Quack says; "...said trainers violated the rules by having the chain on the course."

Who's rules??

Quack says; "Harley only wants people training on Harleys so they will buy Harleys."

DUH!

Quack says; other motorcycles are "...smaller and easier to handle for beginners."

So.... was his client too stupid to figure this out or too stupid to know there are other MSF course available with "smaller" bikes??

Quackenbush... What a quack!1

>>>From the video, it looks like she and the Blast were in the same weight class.

Yup.

What I'm about say may offend some but...

I was 5'11", now 5' 9 3/4 due to a wreck, and some other things. Anyway - I once weighed 350 pounds on a 5'11" frame, and couldn't walk 1/2 mile with out stopping. I knew I could not safely operate a motorcycle, so I didn't even try. It wasn't until I was down to 280, I even thought about it, and down to 250, I tried for the first time in my life.

Bottom line is she is a fat a$$ chick, who know she was fat, knew it would be difficult, and CHOSE to take the course anyway. She fell the day before, and still came back to try again. This is on her - Period. Take some F'ing responsibility for the choices you make.

And, what if Harley refused to let her take the course? Business's that have refused similar service because for similar reasons, have in-turn been sued for discrimination. Bi-ch should STFU, and try walking a little!

What bike out there is lower or smaller than a Blast?
I know there are a couple of 250 cruiser models but I can't imagine that they'd have a lower seat height than a blast with a low seat.

If you can't ride a blast then you can't ride a motorcycle.... probably not even a bicycle. It's the easiest bike I can think of to ride.

MSF sites in TN get sued frequently. Or at least way more than I think they should.

MSF has great lawyers that can easily defend the course, instructors and sites if the class is taught by the book.

I cant seem to find the chain rule in any of my documents.

As the devils advocate, Whats the chain and pole, and how does that come into play in the accident. I have little sympathy for suit happy people, but if there was something really dangerous laying around, they might have a leg to stand on, pun intended.

What a pathetic world we live in. 20 years ago, news headline would read

"Idiot burns self on bike, deserves what they got"

Nevermind, it wouldn't make the news. I swear, every time someone makes a mistake and hurts themselves, they sue. Oh wait, not everyone, just the ones full of cowardice and greed.

Its pathetic that HD has to waste their time, energy, and money on this BS. Same goes for any upstanding company, it sucks people cant take responsibility for their own actions.

THis is so bogus

The more I think about this, the more frustrated I get. What other bikes are smaller and easier to handle? Mopeds? Is there a production, street legal bike with a lower seat height and less weight? Im just curious what they could possibly think would be better for her.
And to comment that many women dropped the bikes that day and the day before.....so? Whats the point?

ONly thing I am really interested is this chain business, it states it was hanging from a pole that she ran into. Curious where this was in relation to the 'instruction area' and how unsafe it really was.

+1 on the chain thing.
I'll wager that she took off out of control until she hit something out of the training area.

It's probably a dog tie out that the dealership provides for customers with dogs. It was stated that she lost control, I'm betting she left the training area altogether.

+1 on which bikes are smaller and easier! Maybe a 250 rebel?

I also like how they kept referring to it as a harley, can they not say buell since they are no longer?

The whole thing is a bunch of crap.

Who gives a crap if there was a pole near the course? There are poles near the roads too. That pole may have saved her from a more serious pole related accident later on.

Edited for typo

I know there are a couple of 250 cruiser models but I can't imagine that they'd have a lower seat height than a blast with a low seat.

When I took the MSF class I rode one of these little 250 cruisers. When I got home to my Blast with a low seat I was amazed at how heavy and tall the Blast felt in comparison. Mind you I'm only 5'2" on a good day and have NO inseam to speak of. I kept the low seat on for my first 6 months of riding or so. I now have the stock seat on and feel comfortable on it.

Some people just do not have the coordination to ride a bike, much less a motorcycle. Doesn't an instructor have the right to remove someone from class if they determine that it's an unsafe environment for the "rider" and others in the class?

You sign a waiver you relinquish the right to sue. Period. It is crap like this that has caused an inordinate amount of legal mumbo jumbo to wade through for former BRAG officers... 500 pages of this crap to read through and the need for four officers to commit time and effort to do it the HD legal way... I know bc I was an officer for a new BRAG club. Flies in the face of 'screw it lets ride'.

we can counsel them out if need be.

BUT, if they aren't holding the rest of the class up then we tend to let them ride.

a lot the the time when the poo hits the fan, it happens so quick there is nothing you can do but help them up.

I've seen a lot of asphalt surfing...

remind me to tell you some time...

The way I look at it, if they tip over sooner rather than later, it saves me a lot of running to where they end up. I've often thought about a range surrounded by a moat full of foam chunks...
BTW, a Rebel isn't always the answer; my last class I had to wash out a woman who dropped the Rebel once on Saturday, then twice on Sunday--- right in front of me! She had other issues besides weight or height. Oh, and she had a Blast! sitting at home waiting for her to take the class...

Riding a motorcycle is an athletic activity requiring above average coordination and reflexes. Those who don't have both should not be riding. People prone panic should never ride a motorcycle.

So first day of first grade, the teacher asks kids what their daddy does for a living.

Little Jimmy proudly says "My Dad's a letter carrier!" Teacher says "Such a noble calling - do you know that letter carriers deliver whether in rain, snow or dark-of-night?"

Little Timmy then says "Well, My Daddy's a FIREFIGHTER" and the teacher says "WOW - that is such a good thing - saving lives, saving people's posessions!"

Then she calls on little Johnny... he quietly says "My Dad plays piano in a whorehouse" SHOCKED, the teacher changes the subject and that night calls Johnny's home to tell the parents. Johnny's Mom answers the phone and is asked if she knows what Johnny said his Father did for a living. His Mom said "Oh, did he tell you his Dad is the piano player in the whorehouse?" The teacher gasps - and says that was exactly what little Johnny said.

Johnny's Mom then tells teacher "Well, his father isn't really a piano player in a whorehouse, he's an attorney but HOW CAN YOU tell something like that to your innocent, young son?"

I actually OMG'd when I watched that. I can see her INSISTING that she be allowed to take the course. They will never mention she probably wanted to ride a Glide or something when she got her license.

I think back to the driving instructor in 'Gone in 60 Seconds'. "Face it lady, you can't drive! I know I can't swim so I stay my black ass out the pool!"

And that Quackenfudge lawyer needs to be punched in the mouth.

My guess is that she wanted a free Harley. They'll be dragging her dead carcass out of a ditch.

Unbelievable
