For a song, I got an Autopilot digital chlorine generator. I had no idea what I'd gotten myself into. A co-worker recommended getting one for our swimming pool, so I hunted around a little on craigslist. Ran across this one, it was listed at $150. I guess I got really lucky. Looked it up, average price is $1800 to $2000 for this unit, although this one is used and when I got it, the guy says "well, there was just one light flashing on it and I don't know nuthin about dem thangs" so I was pretty much on my own. I figured for $150, I wasn't getting hosed too bad if it were totally fried. The core is supposed to be worth maybe $1200 if it's in good shape. Guess what... it works. I wired it up after replacing a 6 amp fuse on the main board inside it. Nothing else wrong except the time was off by a few hours. It even tells me I need to add 356 lbs of salt to correct its imbalance. I kinda feel like a thief now. Wife says DO NOT call the guy to tell him it was a $.50 repair to fix it. |

One of my co workers got a ride on lawn mower for next to nothing the same way, except it needed a new sparkplug. Good find |

My father-in-law wrote the book on mercury contamination. Just the other day he was explaining to me how it happens, usually by industrial cholorine generation. Good find! |
