Some schools use 125 cc shift bikes and 80 to 150 cc scooters. Less intimidating to newbies. Have to agree if the instructors were by the book, they should be fine. |

It's like a state park near my house. Now, I'm going to preface this (for those who don't know) with the fact that I WAS "handicapped" - I couldn't walk for months after my accident, without first a walker and then crutches and finally a cane ("get off my lawn, you kids!!"). But this state park took a hiking trail that I loved, to a set of waterfalls....and made it HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE. Couldn't make it up if I tried. They took a HIKING TRAIL, and "PAVED" it with wood decking and 3.5' tall railings. Now, I'm all for equal opportunity...but let's PLEASE face it. There are some things, that some people...just are NOT able to do. Period. And sad to say...but for those of us who ARE able to do it, stuff like this ruins it. I haven't been to those falls since they paved the trail. Might as well walk down a sidewalk as far as I'm concerned. And that comes from a guy who got home from the hospital, sat in his living room the first day, looked out the window, and bawled because he knew he wasn't able to walk to his own mailbox even though it was close enough that I could see it clearly from my chair. ACCOUNTABILITY. Learn the word, folks...because I'm sure Webster is going to remove it from the dictionary soon. Nobody understands the concept anymore, so why keep it in the language? |

"Bottom line is she is a fat a$$ chick, who know she was fat, knew it would be difficult, and CHOSE to take the course anyway. " You bet I am offended at this. I think the point could and has been made without this kind of narrow-minded bullshit. Yeah, lets get this into our heads...DON'T TRY ANYTHING DIFFICULT! I am a "fat a$$ chick", myself and ride. I see a lot of fat a$$ dudes that ride as well. I have probably been riding as long as you have and can repair my own bike should the need arise...fat ass and all. Oh and I just recently took up kayaking....I should be shot. My cholesterol is 81, blood pressure is 110/60 (until this second). I don't look like a porn star in a bathing suit, but I have absolutely NO interest in impressing anyone by entering a beauty contest. Back on point...do I think she should sue for having a hard time in class? That would be a resounding NO. But at the same time I am wondering how she laid under the bike for 4 minutes? 4 minutes is a long time...especially if you are being actively injured for the whole 4 minutes. Is it understandable for her to be angry? Did her weight have one thing to do with someone not being able to get the bike off of her for 4 minutes? I know that I have lifted much heavier bikes than a blast. So to be taken aback and angry at the woman because she is suing....understandable. To have such vitriol towards her because she is obese is moronic. You are perfect in every way, correct? |

Well, my thought on the 4 minutes is that the chain must have tangled her in it somehow. I just don't see how you can get trapped under a Blast, especially if there are other people standing right there. If the bike was bound to her, getting her AND the bike up would be a trick for sure. And I'll bet with that thing burning her leg the whole time, she wasn't exactly being calm and patient... probably flailing like a madwoman, which would only make things worse. ~SM |

They were at a dealership as I understand it....No water? No bolt cutters? If she were "flailing like a madwoman" and making it worse....I would have taken pity on her and hosed her down. Getting burned is painful. I think there is accountability on both sides and I typically despise people who sue. |

"and can repair my own bike should the need arise" By "repair" I assume you mean "build a 120HP motor for". |

Pammy - thinking about what you said about bolt cutters and a hose - its likely that'd have taken just as long to get as getting the bike off of her. Think of the time to get to her, struggle with the motorbike, realize you need one of those two tools and then go fetch them and come back. I think about a local dealership and where they hold their RE program, its a decent distance from the building, would have to have one hell of a hose on standby |

Heck, in 4 minutes my co-instructor and I would have had the bike back upright (even if she were "attached" somehow), checked for damage to the student or the bike, and been on our merry way. @Swordsman: doesn't the Blast! have a belt? |

Mr. Owens, I understand what you are saying and I wouldn't use that as a defense by any means. When dealing with an internal combustion engine in conjunction with living,(bleeding) breathing mammals, I would think that safety would be paramount. Granted that one would not expect a client to become entangled in a chain hanging from a pole as a rule. But since the chain and pole were in the immediate area (I doubt she traversed any significant mileage)of the class, it should have been looked upon as the exception. Also if some cro magnon here is still putting all the blame on the womans pant size, I am sure that they(riders class) had some like minded individual(s) involved in this class that should have taken whatever precautions they deemed necessary to counter any trouble a "fat a$$(ed) chick" might cause. Maybe heavier shocks, re-inforcing the asphalt...whatever. As it was so eloquently noted earlier...she knew she was fat. Unless she has a secret for concealing this fact that I do not possess. they knew she was fat as well. Anyway, let me say again, I am not condoning her actions. I do not know the circumstances first hand as I was not there. But the fact that the woman is a "fat a$$ chick" shouldn't enter into the question of her culpability. Even though she will be judged as surely as she is every day for her weight alone. |

The one time my wife dumped her Blast while moving (well, stopping) she was under it for a couple of minutes as the rest of us hit kickstands, jumped off, ran over and tried to extricate her pants leg from the peg it caught on. No burns fortunately (speaking of which, what was she burned on?) 4'11" is plenty big enough to ride a Blast and IMO a heavier rider should have an easier time. |
