I'm back from coast guard boot camp, it wasn't to fun... But I'm glad it's done! I'm stationed in buchanan TN. Right on KY lake working on a bouy tender. I've never really been down to that area, but I hear it's really nice!!! |

Find a fishing guide and go catch some Striped Bass...They call 'em "wipers" 'cause they will wipe your tackle out....a 40 pounder is a real handfull....and they are mighty tasty too. Love me some Kentucky Lake stripers. It's on my "bucket list" to go there one more time. |

Hey, kid, welcome home. I remember the first week of boot camp, a Chief comes into the barracks and said, "Listen up you moondicks! The way to get through this is: don't worry and don't think! And don't write your mama telling her how miserable you are, that will just make you and her feel bad." I thought the whole experience was funny. Sounds like a pretty good first duty station, not far from home. |

Boot Camp for me was actually fun scary at times and hard work but in hind sight I never learned so much and did so many cool things in so short a time before or after in my life. I remember one of the funniest things was when a kid in the fatboy platoon was whinning that the Army guarenteed him three meals a day!!! And the drill seargent grabs him throws him out of the mess hall asses and elbows and says they sure did magot but they didn't say you could eat it and he promptly through the meall at him Congrats!!!! My first day of boot-camp I heard Queen break out a new song, earned short tour and marching party for most of the rest of my stay in San Diego - got really fit, helped the rest of the guys pass the school parts - had a blast putting out fires and shooting a 45, spent extra time carrying a flag, got good at it - lol - and trying not to get in any more fights with Texans - Christy and me became friends in C school - damn Texan - lol - no equator crossings for you! Iman501....congrats on boot camp passing....i remember boot camp down in San Diego back in the late 70's...the infamous 1st "room service/wake up call".Was a light sleeper so i heard the co 1st class and the 2nd class petty officers go up the stairs and get themselves set..well i was already awake and had woke up quite a few of the other recruits,so we already had our racks somewhat "made"..really shocked them...After boot camp it was off to "A" school at Millington,TN ...I did meet some pretty cool people...and i met some real working pieces of "poop" in uniforms throughout my "stint" in the Navy...Anyway glad you're past the boot....get to scoop "bobble heads"... |

congrats on the completion. My favorite from boot Y'all are gonna do pushups until I am tired of counting them... and then we are gonna push the racks back and really make you sweat; And from Marine Corps PLDC 'Are you broke or broken?' meaning the difference between actually fractured, or just whining and sniveling. And from WOC with the guard I don't give a F*ck how you got here, there are only two ways out, and half of you aint going to like the choices. Now get off my Quarterdeck! good times |

Congrats. USN boot in 1976. Got to fire ten rounds out of a dirty .22 rifle. Didn't even learn to break it down or clean it. Best thing I learned was fire fighting and USN history. Was a squad leader and assistant MOA. A schools and sub school for radar was the shizzle, however. You'll always use the skills you are being taught today. |

6 years ago when I went through basic in Chicago, we did the 9mm simulator as well. The only portion with a real weapon was the Mossberg 12ga. Don't worry, later in your career you'll more than likely have the opportunity to qualify with a Beretta M9 and Colt M4. |

Simulator???? Are you kidding me? Welcome to the modern age...what the heck are the new recruits going to do when it comes down to hand to hand combat? Not that I would know either |

Yea it was on a simulator, even fire class was simulated kind of. It was real water and hoses and gear, but we sprayed water proof screens that had fire playing on them.... |

And the fire simulator was in...an air-conditioned room? Couldn't help it. When I learned this stuff, we were suited up, it was inside a burning building and hot, and as the nozzle-man without breathing apparatus, I was choking and scared. But I'll never forget the feeling of going into that burning building and not being able to see 10 feet in front of me while on my knees. And the feeling of being tapped on the shoulder from my relief man and going to the back of the hose so I could get some air. I'd never be where I am today if I hadn't joined the best Navy in the world. |

Good job Iman, now you're career begins! Enjoy all the new places you'll get to go. The military can be a bit of a tough life style but you will be given many opportunities you may not have gotten with out it. If I could go back in time...... |
