What is with the apostrophe in "Nazi's"? The first person "I" is capitalized. |

The 2011 races don't actually start until Saturday. Is HDNET showing the 2010 races? |

How many will die and be maimed this year? Average is four dead per year since 1990. What a great sporting event. |

Sidecar Driver And Passenger Killed During Qualifying Tuesday At Isle Of Man TT http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=4 4670 Racing hasn't started yet... No one is forced to race there. Real-road racers will always get my respect- they truly are a breed apart. (Message edited by redbuelljunkie on June 02, 2011) |

http://tt3dmovie.com/ for what is apparently an excellent documentary. Unfortunately, I think it only has a UK release :-( There's a link to the trailer/preview on the home page - looks jolly good! (Message edited by fahren on June 02, 2011) |

>>> Real-road racers will always get my respect Why? Because they aren't talented enough to compete on the really big stage and so jeopardize their lives to compete on a smaller one? Beyond lame in my view. |

Because they aren't talented enough to compete on the really big stage and so jeopardize their lives to compete on a smaller one? U gonna start this crap again? No one is holding a gun to their heads. BTW, there are deaths on the "big stage" as well...should they stop all those events as well. |

Try this crap in 'Merica. Litigation would eat Isle of Man TT over here. Safety is a huge concern on the "big stage". Look at the dollars spent on upgrading Laguna Seca at the Corkscrew. This does not mean that fatal accidents can't and don't happen but they are the exception rather than the norm. |

Litigation would eat the Isle of Man just about anywhere in the old & new worlds. However, the IOM has limited self-government & they have decided that the TT races will continue. It's a big revenue generator & publicity vehicle for the IOM. Health & safety would not let it happen in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The IOM is just one of those historical quirks. |

True that! I've visited the TT's a couple of times & even participated in "Mad Sunday" on one occasion. IDK what pressure is applied to riders to participate but, at the end of the day, no one is actually forced to compete. It is as dangerous as all get out though. Not the speeds I rode at but the TT riders are all crazy fast & it is a horrible course where you can get off at just about any time. I'm happy to ride it on PS2 these days. I would not attempt to ride the course in real life! Chris C |

Not quite... The Isle Of Man is just the most well-known of the real-road races- the majority being held off of the island, such as the Irish Road Race Championship, Czech Road Race Championship, Frohburg Road Races (Germany), and many others... None of those races you cited are in the UK. I misspoke re: anywhere in the old or new worlds. I was addressing the UK & it's culture of Health & safety. My apologies. Chris C |

Chris nailed it. >>> It's a big revenue generator & publicity vehicle for the IOM. Harlan, What "crap"? Seems the first shot was just fired by you. You should note that I've not ever said one word about ending the event. I too support freedom. I also recognize that all the major commercial concerns that are promoting the event absolutely have blood on their hands. The whole daredevil worship deal is bizarre to me; it seems like a gross misplacement of priorities. Life is a priceless gift. Wildly jeopardizing it like IOM contestants do for the sake of what amounts to a frivolous sporting contest is very unfortunate. I won't ever watch or read coverage of the event again. As to your comment that "BTW, there are deaths on the 'big stage' as well...should they stop all those events as well", Tom (Reindog) did an excellent job of exposing the idiocy of that deeply flawed attempt to invent a bogus moral equivalence to world class closed course racing. Odds are that four people will die due to racing at IOM this year. One already has. It happens EVERY year. It's despicable. The island of death. |

Well, the Brits are confused about what constitutes the UK too... John Westlake says: TT races in Birmingham? North Circular GP? Transport minister Mike Penning has announced a consultation document which, if passed as law, would allow councils to hold bike (or car) races on public roads. This would bring mainland UK in line with Northern Ireland, where the councils arrange all manner of commendably unhinged road races. Penning said: "There is a huge following for motor sports in this country and yet... jonniemccrea says There is Road Racing in the UK Steve Westlake doesn't know where the NW200 is, and Stan doesn't know what countries form the UK. There IS Road Racing on public roads in the UK, in Northern Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland (Southern Ireland), and the Isle of Man. Come on you guys. Sharpen up. TWeaKoR says: @joniiemccrea Try reading the article. No one here has suggested that there aren't any road races in the UK. In fact, the second paragraph in the article states: 'This would bring mainland UK in line with Northern Ireland, where the councils arrange all manner of commendably unhinged road races.' Note *mainland* UK. As for the location of the NW200, that was clearly a joke. If you can't detect that kind of subtle humour then maybe you should just spend your time trolling American forums. found here: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/community/Forums /Categories/Topic/?topic-id=412638&message-id=4517 513&__ia=message4517513#message4517513} |

Awesome event, i always like watching it. So because 4 people die each year, even though they willing do it, its lame? How about the paris to dakar? (which no longer goes from paris to dakar) People die in the race every year, just a risk in these kinds of races. |

>>His friend Bill Smith, a four-time TT race winner who owns a motor sales firm in Chester, said: “People are upset about it but I take a philosophical point of view. “Bill told me that, at his age, he would rather die racing than from cancer.<< “That might seem a strange thing to say, but it’s the way racers think.” Read More: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/loca l-news/2011/06/02/great-sutton-biker-bill-currie-6 7-dies-in-isle-of-man-crash-100252-28806389/#ixzz1 OADsSWGc But then Wayne Gardner said the same as Blake last year. |
