Sidenote here- I have a bit of an issue with the "fish" takeoff emblems such as:

I always thought the plain "fish" (no "JESUS" or anything else emblazoned inside) was a cool way of quietly saying "I'm a Christian". The "counter" fish emblems imply you can't believe in science, or evolution, or any of a variety of other things if you're a Christian.

The main thing though has to do with the history of that emblem. It was devised by early Christians in the Roman Empire to avoid persecution by the authorities. If you were found to be a Christian, Nero (for one) was apt to have you crucified, tarred, and burned alive while still on the cross. To avoid persecurtion, Christians would meet in secluded locations. The symbol was basically a secret sign for recognizing one another. The first person would make one-half of the "fish" in the dirt with a stick; if the other person was a Christian, he knew to complete the "fish" by making the other half.

Pretty cool, eh? Most people probably don't have a clue of the history behind the emblem.

William,

Genesis 1:27

God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

My understanding of "in His own image" is probably much like yours, that is means not physically, but psychologically and spiritually.

Genesis 1:26 has always been very interesting for me. : )

>>> My God does not consider Jesus a God

Isn't it best to not presume to speak for god?

Christ not a last name, right, more a title or honored recognition of who he is.

So then absent Jesus being who he said he was are you still bound by the law? Do you follow any type of new covenant or are you obliged to adhere to the original?

Interesting.

Exactly! And now they are being turned into the new cool way to persecute Christians. Now that I know that they are being pushed by the same group that has the copyright on the Coexist bumper sticker I will now recognize that too as religious persecution, not religious tolerance. Learning that fact alone is worth my time in these discussions.

When you are on the doling end of it, it is called submission; when you are on the receiving end of it, it is slavery or persecution.
It always has been, will always be such.

NO, that is not how I see that statement, my take on it is based on the key word of it. Create.
We were made in the image of The Creator, that image is of creation. We are that image, we are the creators of our own selves.
Not to fall into the guilt trip placed on me by the "Christians" of persecuting them. I do not believe Jesus was my savior, he cannot save me from the sins I created, only I can do that by not creating those sins in my life. Christians have themselves a convenient scapegoat in Jesus.
That is my belief and as I am the creator, I do presume to talk with God.

Have a nice life boys, hope all are saved and live for all eternity with your beliefs.

This is the most I have delved into religion in a long time, it has always been a folly to argue or debate both religion and politics, like I said before, everybody is right because everybody is wrong. Now I will go back to staying out of these 2 subjects.

Still it's amusing that people will argue with Christians, with feeling, while avoiding hurting the feelings of those who would kill them for the same argument.

We ARE all in agreement the "rapture" preacher is a con man, right?

( song heard in car today.... I think it's appropriate for any discussion involving revelation, satori, enlightenment, or Gods, to remember that con men exist. As does Evil, Chaos, and those who would exploit the yearning of their fellow man to believe in something..... more.

I really doubt Cpeg is claiming a divinity beyond the knowledge that actions have consequenses, and you are responsible for the part of reality you influence. You "create" your own reality, partly and affect others. Right? Cpeg? )

Yeah, stick around.

It's just that do-it-yourself religions are ultimately barren. And when someone wants to equate themselves with The Creator, as a creator (small c), moral superiority comes into play. I just didn't agree with the theology.

I was raised a strict Frisbyterian. We believe that when you die, your soul gets caught up on the roof.

No offense intended.

I have had this arguement enough to know that
1) you are not changing my mind
2) I am not changing your mind
3) more likely than not, neither one of us is correct
4) I didnt start it, I wont be here when it ends, and when I am dead I am past caring
5) Brought to you by the religion of 'meh'

my indifference is only exceeded by my apathy
I fully believe in checks and balances, my balanced ambivelence is keeping my procrastination in check

Cosmic Muffin?

That's like oral with space aliens isn't it?

Personally I'm "Freddist" my God's name is Fred, he's bald & wears boots.
He looks after me & mine & I believe in him, it's a good deal for both of us.

I get a God who's not distracted by anything else, & he gets exclusive 100% belief, plus his religion isn't likely to schism or be twisted by mad people for their own ends.

Works for me, is all I can say.

Cpeg you receive your judgement from God not man. May be a New Testament Bible class would be helpful. Learning how to deal with your hate could lead to a happier life. If a discussion leads to a fear of judgement a serious self examination may be in order. Blaming others with your sin is not unusual Adam blamed Eve when God asked why he disobeyed. Nothing new here the reason has not changed failure to face ones own issues or sin.

Lets forget me examining and passing judgment of myself. Lets look at the judgment and condemnation of what you just wrote. You are proposing that I examine myself for hatred! What you just wrote has more judgment and hatred than I have ever felt for anyone, including myself. You also are another one of those with really poor reading comprehension abilities, I have stated that the ONLY one I blame for my sins is myself. I don't live under the delusion that there is a someone who will absolve me of those sins.
My only judgment of you is that you can't spell.
