Thank You Zip, that was very moving.
This is always, Hard time of year for me, memories flood my mind and sometimes overflow. I try to spend time with fellow members of the Patriot Guard, they tend to understand, and being together, helps overcome the memories of those we have lost, and those that are currently in harms way.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those that never made it home, to those that are currently away from home, and also to ALL public servants who have given their lives in the line of duty, and who are currently working to keep our hones and loved ones safe.
Thank You all from a retired Old Jarhead, may god bless you!!

Thanks Zip.

I would like to say more but I might (would) sound stupid. There are more that have done than I have (I'm still alive.)

I watched the flag pass by one day.

It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine saluted it,

And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform

So young, so tall, so proud,

With hair cut square and eyes alert

He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him

Had fallen through the years.

How many died on foreign soil?

How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?

How many died at sea?

How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?

No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of taps one night,

When everything was still

I listened to the bugler play

And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times

That taps had meant "Amen,"

When a flag had draped a coffin

Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,

Of the mothers and the wives,

Of fathers, sons and husbands

With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard

At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in Arlington.

No, freedom isn't free.

Being a Soldier myself... I take this day to study history and learn more about the epic tales and struggles of my brothers and sisters. I also take a little time to think of those who didn't come home and count my own blessings.
