My lap top has an HDMI port, and additional monitor out plug/port. Across my living room is a old school big screen, with RCA & S-video imputs. I would like to hook my lap top up to the big screen. I know there are "UP" converters, but will they work backwards? Thanks for any help! |

Do you have a VCR or DVD hooked to the TV, with an analog input? Plug computer to VCR, then run VCR into TV. Done. (says the guy with a Mackie 1604VLZ sound mixer hooked to his surround sound because there weren't enough audio inputs on the amplifier for the TV, DVD, iPod, Sirius, AND VCR ) |

VCR does not have HDMI inputs, or I would. My computer is a Dell studio 15xx. Maybe my HDMI port is an imput only, not sure. |

would be easier to have a receiver with HDMI in and component or composite out. a standalone solution (spendy): http://www.svideo.com/hdmi2svideo.html i'm sure there are less expensive options - ebay also might be worth a look. GL! |

Thanks for the link! Now I have to see if the port on my laptop is an input/output or an input only... |

A buddy just bought this on my recommendation (I warned him I didn't do much research, just a 20 minute time boxed excercise at making a best guess for him). http://www.amazon.com/Component-video-YPbPr-Conver ter-Up-scale/dp/B0016SN49Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid= 1304009161&sr=8-3 He said it works great once you get the laptop set up right. Here is another cool approach: http://tversity.com/screenshots/ I tried this, and it's actually pretty slick. The way you would use this is to install it on your laptop (or even desktop) and have it on your local network. Load up all your media there. You then hook up an XBox, a WII, an IPhone, or one of many other supported devices, up to your TV. You then use the WII (or whatever) to connect to your desktop machine, and it browses all your media and plays what you want. It has support for web streaming content as well (i.e. Hulu), though I haven't played with that much and don't know how well it works. Wii's are falling out of favor, so you can probably score one of those used at GameStop for $100. And it will also stream NetFlix natively and painlessly now. The XBOx will do it as well, but I think you have a BS requirement to buy an XBox Live subscription even to do local streaming (but maybe not, haven't tried that either). |

Oops! Better do more research on that amazon linked device I have above. It does PC -> HDMI, but I don't know if the component video is input, or output. |

Most receivers nowadays downconvert the signal- they will output all inputs onto s video and rca outputs. You'd prob spend $150-200, but you'd also have a receiver! |

JIm2 - that's a DVI to RGB (component). He was looking for HDMI to S Video or Composite (Red White Yellow).
