A friend of a friend is having an issue with the trans oil coming up through the clutch cable and leaking out through the boot, and I was wondering if anyone has seen this, and if there's any known causes/cures???

Sure have seen it! Thought it was extremely odd as I had never seen it before. On the '99 M2 in question it was due to both head breathers being kinked.

YMMV,

Is he losing engine oil?

Could be the primary fluid level is going UP, if the crank seal is leaking (pressurized) engine oil into the (splash-lube) primary case.

There is a o-ring on the threads of the cable. sounds like it is bad and letting the fluid leak by.Also make sure the torque is set right. As for over filling the trans, it has a overflow tube that exits out the top cover of the trans no breather unless he had one installed. So if he over fills it will come out there.

I have seen it before working in the shop usually after the trans side cover or cable has been changed.

Vent is clear, fluid level is slightly low, and last time I checked, the fluid is traveling up the inside if the cable housing and leaking out at the adjuster. The weather is moderate, not too hot or cold, and the bike hasn't been ridden much, (1500 Mi) Still not sure what could be causing it...
