So I talked to the wife and told her that the 1190 could be at Barber for the race. She is game to go down and see the races. We live in Arkansas so it is a 6 hour drive to get there. The thing is we have never been to a race of any kind and we have two kids that we will need to bring with us. A 3 year old and a 10 month old. Is that age appropriate for them? I know my daughter will like it.
The other thing is where can I stay. is there any camping close? Our plan was to drive down Friday, go to the races all day Saturday then try to find something else to do on Sunday and drive back home on Monday.
Any suggestions or useful information on where to stay or what else to do would be helpful. Thanks hope to see some of you there.

For the 'something to do on Sunday' - spend time at the museum!
You'll need (in my opinion) a day to really take it all in, its so worth it!

there is a campground at Barber but primitive, no amenities. camp away from the RV's for better sleeping.

Ear muffs for the kiddos
Sunscreen and insect repellent for all.
Rain poncho for you if it rains, wife and kids on the car

That's about all I can tell you. Never been to Barber but hope to soon. Have fun!

camping chairs, parasol/umbrella/big hats

Keep an eye (or leash) on the kids. You get engrossed in the race and they don't you're going to be looking for them for a while.

I'd take the portable DVD player even tho my daughter (2yrold) would probably watch the whole race and want to go to the pits to get up-close.

there will be vendor booths set up to wander through, the museum is great and I think they have a tram/train/golf-cart-with-trailers that can drive you around (always entertaining). Make sure you get around the track and spot all the sculptures.

I need to get my tickets. I went last year and it was great. Pit Passes are worth it! I finally got to meet Erik in the pits.
The museum is amazing and yes you'll need at the very least an entire afternoon to see it all. All day if you really want to take it all in.

I didn't check it out (no kids) but I think they had a kid-friendly area last year, bouncy castles and such.

There's a few decent and affordable hotels within a mile or so of the track.

I'm kinda in the same boat, wanting to make this my first race and taking my 6 yr old with us.
It'll take me 8hrs to get there but with the chances looking good for the 1190, I think its a done deal (and its fathers day on sunday).

It is a done deal for me, Tickets are ordered with the pit passes, and hotel is reserved. A days inn in Leeds. about 15 min from the track. Can't wait. We are only going to be there for the race on Saturday. Really hope Geoff has a good race, and Erik and the 1190 will be there.

I'm thinking about going down on Saturday to see some of the racing and head home that evening. It's only a 3 hour shot for me to get down there.

Barber is a very nice track and a good place to watch a race. The turn 1-2-3 area is big and it's a neat place to watch, but the best place is in the woods on the back straight. You can see turns 4-5-6-8-9-10-11.

Got the tickets and room, ready to see the 1190 in action.

Where would be the best place to be to take pictures of some knee dragging ?

Might have to rent a lense for this one.

like Chad says, the best place is near the woods on the same side of the track as the museum! i've even enjoyed watching from the top floor of the museum!

So what are the odds of the monster being unleashed that weekend?

That would just really put it over the top for me.
