Blake, I'm not saying that lines shouldn't be drawn, but I constantly see this "them vs. us" mentality here. And "they" are invariably evil and/or stupid. I've never held that I'm "OK with Christians saying whatever they want" but that those who "say something against Christianity ... should be shamed and attacked." While I see what you are saying here, the thought of Christians intentionally shaming and attacking anybody, even in supposed self defense just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. What happened to love thy enemy? What happened to turn the other cheek? I'm not saying that Christians are just supposed to give in to everything, and I'm notoriously bad at turning the other cheek (but fairly accomplished at lifting one...) I think we can do better than this ultra-defensive and downright offensive chip on the shoulder attitude. Just once I want to take part in a discussion about religion on the internet where somebody can look at all the posts and tell who is following the great commission by loving God and loving others. Even their enemies. |

I've been telling folk that the rapture was back in 2003. So few were righteous enough to rise directly no one noticed. Well, a small town in Australia, and a couple of African tribes disappeared, but the tribes were assumed to be victims of genocide, and the Aussies could easily loose a small town and fail to notice. |

Xbniner, Not just Christians, everyone, and not attack the person, oppose the poor behavior by calling it out. For example, when someone says something bigoted against a minority ethnic or racial group, we absolutely are duty bound to call it out, not allow it to pass unchallenged. That goes for any group of people. I oppose attacking the person. Our obligation is to oppose hatred and bigotry. Love and forgiveness, treating others as we would be treated isn't a mandate to tolerate hate or bigotry. Quite the opposite isn't it? Love the person, hate the sin. |

Curtis, My early Bible reading experience matches yours. Only recently have I taken up serious study of scripture. You object to being called an atheist, but then close by stating that you are pretty much an atheist. I can respect your choice of belief, especially the uncertain part. I cannot respect your reasoning as it seems based entirely on emotion. a serious reading and study of the gospels is well worth your while. It's really a great read. You say you have no sense of god within you. I think you do. You call it your conscience, the innate human sense of common objective moral truths. Unless you're a psychopath. |

As a young boy, did you torture animals much and feel no remorse? |

What the hell Blake? Carefully, that's strike pretty damn close to a personal attack. I did not and do not torture animals. You call it god I call it empathy and common sense. I don't hurt others cause I don't want to be hurt myself. That doesn't take a god to tell me not to do things like that. I have empathy so I can understand the pain of others. I can even see empathy in the animal kingdom. Right now my great dane is in a lot of pain due to a bone defect. She can barely move. My other dog could easily go over and steal her food but he doesn't. He isn't scared of her she isn't lashing out if he comes near. And normally he's the "pack leader" between the two of them. Of course this is insubstantial but there are studies that show there is empathy in the animal kingdom. Hell, stories of mothers nursing orphaned animals of different species are pretty telling. I'm not looking at any studies right now but I'd bet that empathy among animals is far more prevalent among pack animals. When animals live in groups it is beneficial for them to all work together. Human's are social animals it makes sense that we have a inherit desire to work together and get along. Do you think that these animals are led by a belief in God? Also it's not ok for someone to call christians "mouth-breathers" but it's ok for you to insinuate that all non-believers are psychopaths? |

I was joking Curtis. Smiley absent; should have included one. My bad. To be convincing as mere pack instinct the behavior you mention would need to be the rule rather than the exception. It isn't. Only in humankind is altruism a common behavior. There are no parallels in the wild to the good Samaritan or the philanthropist. |

this needed a better ad campaign, not enough lead time to make a sufficient profit off of the pedantic hysteria. Though I did let go of some armament and a nice uptick in price. even a case of old MREs ! (hell they were 'expired' anyways) Next quarter, I will see if the investments in booze, condoms and smokes paid off. |
