The kindle version of that book is around $10. It contains many omissions, and much that is apocryphal, but it is slightly cheaper, and it has the words "don't panic" written in large friendly letters on the cover. |

The Babel Fish translator will be extremely useful should any of us left behind not be able to communicate in traditional ways..... |

That appears to be a contradictory statement, as the babelfish proves the non-existance of God. |

But...it also disproves the non-existence of God. (Just ask any Oolon Colluphid deniers you may run into on your travels)...... |

On a lighter note.... Once y'all have read all the Hitchhikers books try, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett for an alternative view of the apocalypse. Then try, Red Dwarf & the sequel, Better than life, both by Grant Naylor. I like the way this thread is going! Chris C |

The lame movie of THGTTG will be on Direct TV channel 559, Sat at 5am. I never miss a chance to watch it. There, I put the word I edited out the first time back. It was a lame attempt to put the book on film, but it did make for fun watching for those of us who had no BBC. (Message edited by cpeg on May 18, 2011) |

Worst movie interpretation ever. A Hollywood catastrophe. 1/10. The BBC Radio play and TV series were 10 times better and the book was that much better still. |

I never miss a chance to sleep until 6:00 on Saturday morning. Maybe I should buy a machine to watch it for me as I sleep. |

BBC did a series that closely followed the books. The Movie was pretty disappointing IMHO. Adams died during production, and they finished it without him. I think they went the wrong direction with it. I would say the probability of his death during filming was astronomical, but given the subject matter (and a really hot cup of tea) anything is possible. |

DD: Agreed. I had the privilege of listening to the original broadcasts in the UK & wild horses would not have prevented me & my friends from being in front of the radio when they came on. Chris c |

Worst was they left out the final scene - which 'tied the room together nicely'. It left the pointlessness of the whole thing without its point. |

I got the DVD as a gift. Watched it once, haven't watched it since. The TV series was top notch though. |

It's something of a generational thing. My 20 somethings think it (movie) was pretty good. They weren't subject to the influence of the 'originals'. And it was a significant cultural influence too. 42. |

I have the tv series on dvd. Movie was too rushed and they changed it too much. IIRC they added stuff from different books but it turned into a big mess |

>>> Come on Blake, these rapture folks are kooks and are asking to be ridiculed. If rapture actually happens on Saturday feel free to make all sort of fun of me ; ) Won't matter much of course. Where we going? I'm already with you Dave. Joking about a crazy rapture prediction is entirely different than demeaning, disrespecting and insulting Jesus Christ and the entire Christian faith. |

I've tried to treat others with kindness and dignity, respect their beliefs, inculcate universal benevolence, and apparently my status as "infidel" still wont get me into heaven............... |

The subject of rapture is not kooky, it is in the bible. However predicting the world's end on 5/21 is kooky. Lot's of ignorant never reads mock the faith and the word. That in itself is funny. |
