Yep a simple odometer check and you pay your share. You could calculate your yearly driving and have it taken out of your paycheck each week so you're not left with a big debt at the end of the year. Someone already mentioned the jobs this new tax would create. Iam guessing tens of thousands around the country if we do it right. Make it mandatory by a certain date all new vehicles become equipped with a mileage tracker to streamline calculations. Alot us already have these devices for our utilities in our homes. |

I am guessing tens of thousands around the country if we do it right More like hundreds of thousands. All tax men who do nothing to make, create, or serve anyone, anything. Who need to be paid for out of your pocket. To screw you. Every useless government job takes the taxes from multiple people who actually work for a living. Every new govt. job costs you more, and more, since fewer people are working, so you get taxed more. The people you want to hire to take your money for moving? Are going to get more than you do, on average. Finally, it's none of their damn business. If I want to drive 10,000 or 80,000 miles that's MY choice. This is part of the movement to make everyone live in cities. To return nature to it's pristine state. "my uncle has a country place, that no one knows about. He says it used to be a farm, before the motor law..." |

I see a whole lot of disconnected odometers. A "simple mileage check" won't be secure enough. Drive 6 months and pull the speedo sensor. |

Revenue isn't the problem, spending is. Quit trying to find more ways to tax, and make the government live within their means. |

Sell the mexican border to the chinese, license the tolls for the 'illegals' comming across, document and charge them as they come across. Limits national debt to china documents and charges illegals coming in (cause they gonna anyways, lets get some damn revenue) chinese build a wall ... like they havent done that before.... new southern security. out source the decisions because we have shown a history of not being able to deal with either the illegal problem, border security, or chinese debt. theres your tri fecta solution (PS Retask and arm the birds out of Sierra vista -put those drones to work) |

+1 Glitch Fatty - Most newer car's speedos are integrated with the car's computers and fuel management systems. That's how they calculate MPG on the information panel almost all cars have now. We just changed a speedo unit on an '09 Trailblazer and the instructions stated the vehicle had a 15 mile window to get to a dealership for calibration with onboard computers. It has an automatic shut-off feature after 15 miles if the odometer is disabled. (Message edited by jb2 on May 19, 2011) |

There will be a cottage industry that will spring up producing odometer defeating applications. Never underestimate the drive for tax avoidance (and evasion). |

There will be a cottage industry that will spring up producing odometer defeating applications. I wonder how much U-Haul has lost in revenue. I can't get over the fact that so many people are more than willing to ask the government into their lives. |

"There will be a cottage industry that will spring up producing odometer defeating applications." Very true. Theoretically speaking you can already do it local to the machine in question. However, if they mandate that all new vehicles come with something akin to OnStar (and we all know it would be OnStar anyway) then you won't be defeating it. |

Wasn't one of the principles of the United States to be able to "freely" move about the country with no or very limited government intrusion????? I'm not liking this new Amerika and the commrades who are trying to cram it down my throat... 2 of the motorcycles I currently own have cable driven speedo devices. I am also quite sure I could find a truck that lacks computer speedo tech... (Message edited by Paint shaker on May 19, 2011) (Message edited by Paint shaker on May 19, 2011) |

The speedo on the M2 only works half the time. Bet I can find some taller tires that will fit on my wife's truck. Instant 10-15% tax savings. The really great thing is going to be the spike in prices for everything transported by truck. $9.00 gas and $12.00 diesel, here we come! |
