It's a mess around Chattanooga. Ringgold Ga, Apison Tn, and a lot of areas got hit hard. I just got my internet back and the power came back on in the middle of the night. There's power out everywhere. My daughter and son-inlaw are out volunteering, waiting to hear from them.http://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/?set=a.10150 172070936336.296372.15704546335

There's an interesting thread under JoMomma on ADV Rider posted by one of the inmates but you gotta be logged in to see it.

Mikey Breedlove called from SW North Carolina last night and was watching things unfold on the tube but fortunately the mountains protected them from all but the rain and wind.

There was an aerial video on FB. Ringgold is just a nice little town, it's sure torn up now. We have a BadWeBer there, trying to remember. Eatoncorners(Steve Eaton) was close to there, but he's up in Rhea County(maybe?) TN now. I just saw a picture of my aunt's house damage in Spring City TN, some hit there too. Those things were all over!

We got skipped for the most part.
Lots of wind but no damage.
I guess all the trees that were going to fall on the house, did it last year.
Thank goodness!

Just got off the phone with my parents who live in Knoxville, TN. They had a lot of hail damage to vehicles, trees, and house. Two of my nephews had windshields busted out. A lot of high school friends posted on FB about similar damages. E TN Uly might be in the same boat.

Huntsville is a mess. Many dead, more injured.
Some close friends lost everything.

We have some large trees down, one just barely missed the house. We were definitely lucky.

A tornado formed just over our house according to our neighbors.

There are a few communities just down the road from us that are just gone.

We won't have power for about a week. So not may places to get gas.

We came up to my dads in pigeon forge. We are bringing gas, food, supplies back on Sunday.

15 hours of non-stop hell this was.

Well Eastern Tennessee is still here!

Part of Knoxville got hammered by hail, lots of golf ball to base ball size stuff in one area of the city did quite a bit of damage. Lots of wind knocking trees down with power lines and some local flooding.

That same storm cell came right over us about fifteen miles East. We were lucky for sure, the hail was sparse mostly pea to marble size with an occasional chunk larger than a golf ball. There was not much volume to it here though so no local damage. In my 53 years I have never seen that much lightning for that duration that close to me. It did not hit anything in our area to even knock the power out.

That same cell continued into Green County twenty miles further East. There it spawned an F2 Tornado that took about 30 homes killing 7 and at last notice 4 were still missing. This tornado hit a half mile from my brother's place. They won't have electricity probably for another week but they had no damage. They found some papers in their yard from the area that had blown apart.

East Tennessee is still open for riding, the damage is localized. I got a few miles in yesterday chasing parts. My only real concern is all of the rain we have been getting this year so far. That is what caused the mud and rock slides last spring. The flooding that happened here in my area about four weeks ago had not completely drained off yet.

So many lives lost in this storm. We have had so many big storms lately it was just viewed as another storm, we even did it. We took no special precautions, heck, we stood in the door of our mobile home watching the hail bounce on our porch floor. Damn.

glad to hear most are unscathed for the most part.

ive had this talk with a few people here lately. one thing ive noticed over the last couple years is that we dont seem to have mild weather much anymore. its all severe storms. pouring rain, big hail, huge snowstorms, lots of tornadoes, extreme heat or cold...

there's no nice spring rains, just a damn monsoon.

I drove through some affected areas today. There are some large areas of Kentucky that are under quite a few feet of water. There are some places near I-24 in Tennessee where the trees looked like icing on a cake where somebody had smooshed their fingers all through the green icing. Then on I-75 South entering Georgia, an entire town, completely destroyed, looked like something out of a graphic novel.

Giant steel poles twisted and broken, billboards strewn about in shredded piles of debris... whole sections of dense forest uprooted and scattered randomly, destroyed buildings, wires and rubble everywhere.

Never seen anything quite like it. And I've been in some major hurricanes.

I was saying quite a few prayers as I drove.

Middle Tennessee missed the excitement this session thankfully. Predicted to get baseball sized hail.

Thankfully we missed that fun. : |

entering Georgia, an entire town, completely destroyed

That used to be Ringgold, I 'spect.
There was a lady in Knoxville that found a 4x8 sign in all her rubble. It said Remco--Ringgold Ga. 112 miles. And that storm didn't take the direct route.
My son and I are heading out in the morning with the Boy Scouts and help clean some stuff up. I hope they are ready to let people loose, and have better access. Volunteers have been sitting and waiting at staging areas, really wanting to help, but they have all the areas closed off. There has been some frustration, but I guess there are logical reasons.

Tim,

I think it's more the news media and 24/7 coverage. We're constantly immersed in reports of severe happenings all over the planet. That said, the weather does follow a fairly well known multi-decade cycle.

Andy,

>>> we screw with the planet so she reminds us who's in charge.

Huh? What? Uh, not so much. For a much needed education and explanation, please refer to reality in lieu of the mystical fantasy realm of Al Gore and his fellow carbon-trading power-mad, greed-head leftist schemers.

The devastation just barely 1 mile north of me is astounding. It looks like the tornado actually ripped the grass out of the ground.
It was a reported EF5, and travelled about 26 miles. So much loss. It was about 1 mile wide on the ground.

I'm heading that way with my chainsaw today to see if I can help.
