well.... I want to go to a Jeep Jamboree and I want to take my Father... you know a little Father/Son time... I told him all about... the trails.... the food... the spotters.. It just sounds like fun to me. he says... "If you wanna go play in the mud, I'll open the gate to the field and you can have at it... and if you get hungry.. I'll take you to Mcd's" |

That's awesome. I used to take mine through commercial construction sites when I was doing masonry. The operator on the pettibone used to laugh because the jeep could cross some serious terrain if the route was thought out well. Then we had the drunken nights after being down by the lake in Milwaukee. Cruisin the farm fields till 4 am on the way home. I saw a jacked up 4 door Jeep yesterday. All I could think was "PERFECT family truckster". I should've kept my old one. Time to find another soon.............and YOUR NOT HELPING!!!! |

Dang...looks like you got it bad..starts out...I'll move the mirrors so I can run with the doors off...the tires are too tiny and they are worn out anyway...now I need to lift it....now I have drivetrain vibration, need a SYE....damn, mud keeps killin the rear brakes....disc brake conversion....damn, broke another toothpick axle...Ford 8.8 axle conversion...now I get stuck from loss of traction...install lockers...break front axles and u-joints...CroMo upgrades...now break gears....mega dollar front axle conversion....mud is a PITA, rocks are clean...truck goes turtle, makes use of the "If you can read this, roll me over" window decal...adopt new "body carnage is cool attitude"...learn to love scaring the kiddies and old people with the roar from the knobby tires...convince yourself that 2K street miles from a $1,400.00 set of specialty rock crawler tires is acceptable. Never ends...become familiar with companies like Quadratec, Randy's ring and pinion and Rusty's offroad...you will know more about a Jeep than the Tech at the dealership...or the parts guy... Parting advice...please get a snorkel, a real waterproof one...it is hard to stuff a rod back into the motor after it sucks canal water... I had a whole series of Jeeps...Mine were MJ and XJ Comanche and Cherokee...the power train in your TJ is "virtually" the same. Dude....Jeeps are like Crack...one day you will end up dining at the dumpster behind McDonalds. |

Fast1075 hit the nail on the head Offroading is incredible fun! But gets very expensive real quick. I played with my fathers f150 for a while, the people I went with all had jeeps. You can go alot of places with a jeep with minimal upgrades, but its hard to stop once you get started. Keep her shiny side up! |

Don't learn this the hard way...The further in you go, the worse you will get stuck. And there are no tow trucks in the mud holes that don't cost more than you EVER want to pay. Plus it aways seems to start raining then AND the bugs come out to feed! |

Bad thing about that jeep crack, you can't get by on the smoke swirlin' around another man's head, you gotta get your own pipe. If you're going to paint the floor, Rhino liner is next. Moving the mirrors to run with the doors off? I can help you there. (like a pusher) I have the home-made brackets I used that bolt over the hinges. PM me if you're going to HC2011, and I can bring them with me. |

Mark, if you're gonna go without a rug, you should take it to the local Line-X shop and have the interior sprayed. Did that years ago on mine, as you saw, and I LOVE IT. It's quieter, too Lookin' good though! (although, not nearly enough mud...) |

"Lockers yet?"....let the carnage begin...get a GOOD winch and some snatch ropes, and a handyman jack..and some tools and carry spare u-joints and axles and gear lube and silicone, some secure hard points, REAL bumpers, a good compressor or nitrogen cylinder/regulator and some trail rations and some water....thats the short list, suitable for going to the mall If you ever make it back down to Flawda, I'll show you some MUD!!! Don't forget the Harry's Gonzo windshield washer kit and a roll or two of TP. |

Back away from the lockers! That is the beginning of real carnage($). Make it flex, give it good grip and let them slip. Use smarter angles, don't follow someone with 38's, carry a stretch recovery strap, don't hook it to an idiot's recovery vehicle, always travel with at least three vehicles. Always be willing to help another out, because it is more than good karma. Stock jeep stuff will last a long time if you drive smart and do NOT LOCK the axles. |

Oh yeah, get four nice recovery hooks. mount them solidly on the top of the bumpers/frame rails. You will not regret the ease and convenience.
Try to trail run with similar vehicles. Running with rock crawlers will have you stopped frequently, though many of them put on a great show. Running with really big mud trucks will have you stuck all of the time. These things are fun to watch, but on a ninety degree day it can get frustrating. It is usually more enjoyable to keep moving at some pace, not unlike Buell riding. |

Hey Fast1075.....You been doing Ocala NF? Mark, oh you bet we gotta play in some mud! Royal Blue near Jellico off I75 at the Ky border is great mudding. I hope it will be open whenever I get my Jeep on it's feet. I still have a bit of work to do, but I will be ready again one of these days. |
