"The U.S. needs to run this type of ad." +1, we can definitely learn from what other countries have done with their impaired driving campaigns. Whether or not you know someone who has directly been impacted by it (loss of life, injury, etc.), it HAS affected all of us in the form of higher insurance premiums, etc.

Plan better if you are going to drink. Bikes/cars are parked for the night before we crack open a guinness at days end. Simple.

Been awhile since I'd seen that ad. Definitely high impact.

This topic is another hot button for me. Every day I go to work I am reminded of how horrible drunk driving is when I see my boss on her prosthetic leg. She lost part of her leg while she was motorcycling and a drunk driver in a cage hit her. She has adapted amazingly, but that is fuel to my fire when it comes to talking about impaired driving/riding.

This is another one. Looks like the motorcyclist has a helmet full of guinness.

Bo Steele and Ben Rubino wrote this song for Destiny who was killed by a drunk driver.

I've lost 2 friends and my dad lost a leg to drunk drivers.

In my dad's case it lead to him building better prosthetic legs. He put his tool & die skills together with some fairly new materials (fiberglass & RTV silicone) at the time to build what were very advanced legs in the 60s. I remember seeing the patent papers on all of it when I was young. I also remember him working with other amputees to get better working prosthetics. I still remember the first time my wife saw his basement with a bunch of prototype legs standing around.

What scares me more than drunk drivers?? Drivers on prescription meds and distracted driving (ie; texting, cell phone, etc.).

The amount of people on prescription meds (legally and illegally) is unreal. Worse, they don't think it is drunk driving to be on prescription meds and driving.

I'm talking about the presciption meds that have the same affects a drinking.

Historically drunk driving was likely to occur in the evening/night/early am hours (though it does occur at other times as well). Popping pills and driving is likely to occur at ANY time of the day or night.

This scares me while riding more that anything else.... its just so prevalent. Going home from work, I'd be willing to be at least 1/3-1/2 of the drivers are on their phone and don't even realize I'm there.

ANY impairment - kids, meds, alcohol, fatigue, stupidity - are frightening AND ALL CAN KILL. At least we aren't as sympathetic to driving under the influence as we were at one time.

Ignorant me, I did not realize how common pill poppin and drivin' was but I'm sure you see it first hand and hear about it, Paintshaker.

Pain pills make me sick to my stomach, so I can't fathom leaving the house much less operating a vehicle if I have to take them.

Texting and cell phones, grrrr....just today I was almost sideswiped by a Denali driving soccer mom who was texting. I was in the car, but usually would have been on the bike.

What's it gonna take to get these people to realize this is no joke?

FLtwisty, you are not ignorant. Pill popping is an epidemic that doesn't get much attention in the media. It is pretty dang bad in Florida.

You know, hate to say it, but the odds of having to deal with the various idiots using their "smart" phones whilst driving is far greater than encountering a drunk driver- cel idiots happen 24/7, pillheads almost as much, but unless it's a weekend or holiday the drunks won't show until after 5.

IMHO.

I absolutely HATE what "smart" phones have done to what was once quaintly called "polite society".

NOT to mention what they've done to driving skills. I've installed a Stebel horn on my XBSX (many of you wondered why I butchered my flyscreen, that's why)-
I dearly wish I could install a real TRAIN horn on all my vehicles, and those of my loved ones...

Rant off, eyes UP 24/7!!}

Hell ya. So many teenager girls and wannabe teenage girls (ie soccer moms in SUVs) texting each other it sickens me. THis is WAY more of a hazard than drunk driving.

Around here we have had major incidents due to texting while driving--and others in which "distracted driving" has been cited, but not specifically as "texting."

What doesn't get measured is the number of rear end collisions these texters have caused by not moving at green lights while staring at their god damn iPhone.

By far the greatest danger on the roads are the huge numbers of discourteous, me first, couldn't give a toss, & have no clue how any other vehicle behaves, types.

I see it every day, the last minute cut under the bumper of a rig to make the exit slip (barely) forcing the driver to pile on his brakes often leading to multi vehicle pile-ups as the other jackoffs behind are doing the same thing into sensible peoples braking room.

Or the opposite scenario, the dopey gits who will neither accelerate or slow on the "On" ramp but seem to expect you let them in by changing lanes or braking.
One did it to me this week with a mini-bus full of kids, glanced it off the barrier having run out of lane, then over took me & slammed his brakes after pulling in front of me. I'd expected it so was already slowing to let the brightly painted Police car with flashing blue lights have more room to deal with him.
Evidently, he was not only stupid & dangerous but blind as well.

I lost my Mum because some silly cow forgot to cancel her indicator, mum thought the car was turning & pulled out, took an mpv through the driver's door.

It's a bloody dangerous place the road, I make my living on it, & I have fun on it too, but you just can't take anything for granted, it can all go tits-up in the blink of an eye.

As they used to say on Hill Street Blues,
"Let's be careful out there."
