If you start with the street rod version, I guess you could do a HD version (the look) of a cafe racer. |

Why am I such a sucker for Cafe Racers? The main problem with trying to make a cafe racer out of a V-Rod is that the place where you'd compact the bike, the area around the seat and swing arm is where the fuel tank is. The last one has done a good job overcoming this issue, but I have to wonder what the range is. 80 miles? Do LOVE the look though. |

I think it is a cool looking motor. Big, but cool looking. Some body made a Racer looking bike from the motor....I cannot remember his name, I don't think it was Fisher was it? it was very compact. |

A street Cafe Racer, you can probably get away with this. Probably too big and heavy for a true race bike though. |

Does Spondon make a frame for the Vrod? |

Does Spondon make a frame for the Vrod? I've not seen one, but you can modify the Spondon Sportster frame for a Victory engine. So, I guess it's just a matter of money... http://www.hotbikeweb.com/features/1012_hbkp_2009_ victory_custom/index.html |

THAT is what I'm talking about. The vrod lump in a sportster-like chassis. I never understood the Vrod as it's sold. I saw it as a good start but then they never developed it into anything worth having. They need to put it in a bagger too. Something that weighs 900 pounds would be just fine with 115 HP, right? |

That Victory is sitting in his flagship place in CA. I was in there last month on a west coast visit. When I asked one of the sales guys to tell me more about it he just grunted "Victory engine, Buell frame". I asked him (with genuine, polite curiosity) if he was sure it was a Buell frame and he literally just looked at me, didn't say a word then turned away. I just wanted more info. I was really shocked at the rudeness. When I had gone in there a few years ago, the sales guy, unsolicited, asked if the wife and I would like a tour of the shop. We met and talked to Cory Ness, who then tried to sell me an RR1000 that Arlen bought and never did anything with. Ness also had a jet turbine bike out back, too. It was like a cool attic of bikes... |

That #87 bike above sure doesn't have much apparent bracing at the steering head and the twin tube swing arm doesn't look too stout, either. |

So what I get from Glitch and billys post a guy took an american engine, built it up into a cool little sport bike, and the sales people didn't want to sell it... Hmm. I think I read that book. Nice bike though, imitation/flatery... |

I do like Glitches post above, thanks bud but, our own 1125R'S,CR's are more of everything for a modern cafe racer type of bike; more H.P., more (better) handling, better brakes, etc. I love cafe bikes and recently built yet another one, my 5th, but in the old style as in 60's styling. And I'm lovin' all the new innovation being used to build modern ones. The V-Rod cafe is nice! |

Does Spondon make a frame for the Vrod? They'll make a frame for anything if you pay them enough Nico Bakker in Holland made a frame for the H-D Germany 'Race Rod' endurance racer a few years ago. This was a V-Rod motor in a proper road racing chassis which was raced in the World Endurance championship round at Oschersleben for two years (2006/2007). The bike ran well and won its class I think if memory serves me correctly (which is doubtful these days!). Top picture shows the 2007 bike and the lower picture is the initial 2006 version.
I'd buy one |

That is really cool, any pics of it naked? Do we really have to drag the conversation down to that level already? No just clothed pics I'm afraid.. Frame looks like a modified Bakker Baracuda frame that he markets for streetfighter builders, so it could be replicated I think And I'm sure Nico would build another one if enough dollar/Euro/Pound bills were waved under his nose. |

Don't get the wrong idea, Tom. I wasn't knocking Ness or his operation. I think he just had a knucklehead sales guy on the floor that day. The bike wasn't for sale, anyway. It was up in his "museum". It's a very cool shop to check out if you're ever in Dublin (?) CA outside SF. |

That is really cool, any pics of it naked? OK I found some.... You have to follow the link to Nicco Bakkers web site though to see them http://www.bakker-framebouw.nl/products/motorbikes _track/vrod?lang=en he even has a price list to build you one if you have the required spondoolees (€16400/US$24000 for the full rolling chassis kit). He'll even build a road version if you want one (which I do!!) |
