I agree.
I think we ought to put a stop to moronic articles like the one in the Post.
The method I suggest is BANNING DAILY NEWSPAPERS!
If most of the daily papers were not fountains of liberal horsepucky, they would have been banned long ago.
Just think of the adverse environmental impact for a moment, and even the most addled brained liberal will agree that daily papers are a total disaster.
Just think of the number of trees that are cut down every day, the fuel burned, the oil wasted on ink and transportation, and the enormous problems of daily disposal of hundred of tons of waste paper.
Making you ill yet?
And that is not even to mention the damage it does to our uneducated who believe in such fairy tales like electing a totally inexperienced mystery man will bring hope and change to the fruited plain, even though it took him three years to produce two fake birth certificates.

Another angle is to compare various companies' profit percentages. Maybe compare Regime darlings such as GE or Google to the awful oil companies. Caterwauling about the amount of oil company profits is fun, but the real comparison is profit %.
Another factor is the tax on gas (I believe) is a % of the cost, so our government protectors are getting the real bonanza now, without taking any risk. How is that fair to us innocent drivers? |

Jon Jon the bird lovers will riot over the increased cost of birdcage liners. What about the millions of new homeless folks that need the paper to line the containers they sleep in and to insulate thier clothes in the winter. your so heartless. So you see the libprogdemons are really subsidising the poor with building materials by supporting the papers. I suspect some of the homeless use the paper as the caged birds do too. |

You nailed it . . . .
I continue to be merrily amused by the number of folks, even though less than 40% now "have confidence" in him, who buy into some of this ridiculous crap.

. . . . . I, and don't spread this around, kinda get a kick out of it. MENSA meeting, International Scholars Foundation, faculty meetings and the Alumni Board . . . .are fun places for an entrepreneurial, ex-Marine, veteran of 2 Republican National Conventions, a gig with The White House and a Small Business of the Year Award to hang out . . .
The very idea of working hard, thinking in terms of solutions as opposed to something to whine and protest about is foreign, needless to say, to some, damn near all, of the folks I encounter in the dark academic corner of my life.
The stare in amazement at tales of having one's ass on the line and hard work and success being the ONLY way out . . . . they are accustomed, when confronted with something that seems impossible to seek a grant, federal funding, an entitlement or "equitable relief". The "skin in the game" concept doesn't even register. Many of them, and they are damned nice folks, have spent their life's and careers playing with the house's chips.
I recall being unemployed in 1983 . . . having two little ones and my first house under construction . . which I'd started about 45 days before finding I was out of a job . . . . I had all of about $3,200 and my ass was truly in a sling. I learned a lot about self-reliance.
The lessons are not lost today . . . .but they seem less prevalent and less valued. . . witness the number of folks who've opted to suckle from the public teat . . . and who, now with some control . . . made $160,000 per year government clerks common place.
It's an interesting world and an interesting time. . . no surprise, at least to a couple here, that I . . . your "pompous know it all" have never been more optimistic. The opportunities for fortune are displayed in a panorama across the new horizon of opportunity. Never, in the history of civilized humanity . . have we been better educated, had such ability to collect, manipulate and deploy information and had such an opportunity to define the next iteration in the world of commerce.
What a GREAT time to start a motorcycle company . . . . .
By the talk about "skin in the game" . . . take a look at Erik Buell . . . bitch slapped by a major corporation for no reason better than he was a threat to a couple of folks who'd, after years of middle management and some corporate shuffling, risen to position that enabled them to extract the revenge that's been seething.
Erik, after years of work, has achieved some personal means . . . he also got a pretty hefty offer to finish out the balance of his contract . . . . he was turning 60 and had a fresh serving of "very comfortable retirement" with plenty of money served up on a silver platter and offered to him on a Friday.
Most folks would have jumped at the chance to pocket something that'd look like a lottery check and go relax . . . . imagine the type of guy who gets the offer on Friday and on Monday, the day he has to respond, comes back with a "take it and shove it . . I'm starting my own company" at 60 years old . . . . and then takes every penny stuffed away for eventual retirement, puts it on the table . . goes racing to the tune of $40,000 a week . . hires, be mindful this is out of the family grocery budget . . . about 10 employees and sets out to slay dragons.
That's the type of people that made this country great . . . the type of people that make being alive fun and the reason that folks like Erik and I will be working, just like my Mom, when we his 81.
If you're not going to do something great . . . why the •••• do anything at all?

By the way . . . .on May 11th I'm doing my "dark secrets of successful people that no one will ever tell you" session at Columbia over in the Altschul Building on the Barnard Campus.
I've noted over the years . . . . . and you can get a glimpse of a bit of it from above . . . that the difference between folks who make $2,000,000 a year and the folks who make $40,000 a year is almost NEVER education, connections, location or vocation.
I've also noted that the number of happy folks and miserable folks is about equal in both the $2,000,000 and $45,000 groups . . . as is the distribution of amazing folks and assholes. I started seeing this at Kansas State University in the early 70's, through my time in the USMC and in my subsequent dealers.
I've crafted these malleable minds for a semester . . . taken nearly $100,000 of their money in tuition and told them I don't care how well they retain the technical information I've presented on Contract Law, Scheduling, Estimating and Finance . . if they haven't learned something about THINKING I've failed.
I started, my first semester at Columbia, offering a private session on "Secrets of Success" and it's now turned into a class that is attended by students and faculty . . . . and I open it by explaining that "some of you will NEVER understand what I am about to tell you".
All things considered . . . it's a more amazing life than I'd planned on. |
