Having just bought Indian, now Polaris purchased electric car manufacturer Global Electric Motorcars. What do you think? |

Better than HDs purchase of MV Agusta. That's all I have to say about that. |

It's hard to say how good either deal is without knowing the price. I haven't seen the price on either deal. |

Um, Didn't Bombardier own bombardier europe, the company that owns Rotax? I can't remember the exact connection / names of the companies, but there is one. A connection with Erik is possible. I'm dieing to know what Court knows!! Something big is in the works and a deal with either Bombardier or Polaris is always possible. Polaris is looking at the large, Large picture. I hope it pays off for them. Even if they operate at a loss for a while. If they can operate at a loss for five or more years, they will be in a major position to become a huge global vehicle manufacture. Vehicles as in 2,3,4, or more wheels, skis, hulls, etc. Smaller personal / 2-4 person transportation is going to grow and grow. I think it's awesome and exciting to see a North American company looking to the future as they are. And part of looking to the future, is looking toward the east. Asia. The thought of exporting millions of smaller vehicles to asia, the way they export cars to us is appealing. Chinese clones are likely to be the biggest competition. |

Coincidentally i just read this: Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it. ::: John Lennon ::: |

Fun to speculate, but impossible for us to judge whether this is a good deal for Polaris or not. Seems to me to be a good decision if they have the funds and marketing strength to expand into an adjacent vertical. |

I think that Victory is suffering a similar sales situation Buell did with HD. I hope that introducing Indian to the mix will bring some enthusiasm to Victory. The local Victory dealerships are in ATV\ORV\Snowmobile shops. They carry very little apparel or accessories that support the brand. The salesman I spoke to was tragically under-informed about the motorcycles and didn’t even have a motorcycle endorsement on his drivers license. Boooo! At least Indian survives. Good luck Victory!!! I hope you kick some HD a$$!!! |

I wish I had 100 million bucks. I would build a privately owned dealership network that supported Polaris and subsidiaries, Erik Buell Racing, and Motus. Add to the line-up several makes and models of scooter tooters for the metro greenies. Build an on-line sales and distribution network to reach the smaller markets, while building brick & mortar showrooms in large markets(2million peeps or more). I would certify other shops that wanted it to provide routine repair and maintenance services, without having to sell any particular brand or product except what was necessary to support the vehicle. I'm thinking a dealership network like Cabella's or Bass Pro, just for American(ish) motorcycles and other recreational sport vehicles. Probably 35 actual dealerships nationally. People from far away will keep the catalog next to their other reading material in the bathroom and dream about ordering online or visiting the showroom 200 miles away. What the heck, it's just a 100 million bucks... and it just might work! |

It seems foolish to me that Polaris would buy Indian for several reasons. 1. Indian hasn't shown itself to be a viable company on it's own and it's had multiple opportunities. 2. Customers who might buy Indian are going to think twice just because of the fear of buying a bike from another dead manufacturer and then face parts and service availability problems later on. 3. Being that Polaris is making decent offerings into the cruiser and custom cruiser segments, and even into the touring market, why would they want to offer a line to compete with themselves? 4. Given that the motorcycle industry has shrunken dramatically over the last few years why would a company take such a gamble? It just doesn't make much sense to me imho... I hope it works out though because I'd like to see HD knocked down a peg or two and IF Indian offered a solid bike and a competitive price I would consider one (after they've been in business a few years that is...)... superdave |

It is better to lose a sale to your own family then it is to lose it to your competitor. I could see Indian receiving the retro cruiser look and Victory getting the futuristic / modern look. |

I wish them well, I would like to see a flattrack shoot out between them and the HD;.... that would be a bike I would look at for riding; esp if it is ds legal. Not into the fat heavy cruizers, but Indian does own alot of the iconography to that size of bike, the 48 is a thing of beauty. |
