When i was younger, I did not understand the meaning of Easter.
“He died for your sins”, is what I was told and that did not make sense to me. I thought of it as a bumpersticker slogan. There must be more.
As my life has progressed through: Struggles.. difficult days.. decision making.. success.. failures.. joy.. rise again ad do it all over, brought texture to the “bumpersticker” message.
My life here is the kindergarten stage of a long progression towards paradise. I’m here as an experiential being to get ready for the road ahead beyond the expiration of my body.
That’s where Jesus’ experience illustrates there’s a journey full of wonder for my soul once the body expires. That’s what the resurrection shows us.
What a feat Jesus accomplished by having the nerve to go through the horrific death with the knowledge that he would rise again. He could have bailed!
The accounting of the events , where Jesus spent the night before with Father and the Holy ghost is a beautiful description of how the trinity worked so lovingly together to support this momentous event.
Always makes me smile that easter is the central festival in the Christian calendar, but it's named after the pagan goddess Eostre whose festival used to be held at around this time.
Whatever your beliefs, have a great weekend.
Love light & peace, don't get lost or killed now.
BTW I'm sitting watching the Rays/Jays game full of barbecued beef & drinking chilled Asti Spumante. Having a good Easter here.
I had a great day! Got up at 2:30 am loaded my trusty dog Buck into the Expedition and drove 1.5 hours to one of the farms I hunt in NE Iowa to do some turkey hunting. Got all set up 1/2 hr before daybreak and the gobblers were, well, gobbling! Of course none of them came anywhere near me(I think they have heard about me from the deer) Had a hen walk by but you can't shoot them in the spring. Hunted from 5-11am, then drove 1.5 hours to my parents house for dinner. Ate way too much got to visit my parents, older sister , her husband, my only niece and only nephew. My mom made me my favorite cake for desert(I keep telling my sisters I am their favorite) Buck got his own plate of ham, taters and gravy then we loaded up and drove 1.5 hrs home. Awesome day!
Thank you John! Happy Easter belated to you too! Sorry about the BadWeB corruption of your bunny art. Looks like he had some trouble with the transporter (Star Trek reference). Discus removes leading and multiple character spaces.
Asbjorn,
Excellent commentary! My experience is similar.
I hope all my fellow BadWeB Christians enjoyed a blessed Easter remembering and accepting the gift of salvation, and I with everyone else peace and happiness.
For those who are led to disrespect the holiday among those celebrating it here, I've removed your posts; please seek the light. Don't tell me to lighten up; don't pretend that disrespecting something so dear to me and so many others is no big deal. Find the integrity and decency to be thoughtful of others, respectful; treat others as you would like to be treated.
Grump,
Chilled Asti Spumanti is nice. I heard that somewhere.
We don't celebrate the name of the holiday, just the event. It's converse to the likes of Saint Patrick's day, where pagans and non-believers of all types have co-opted the Catholic celebration and remembrance of an esteemed Christian's good works and turned it into a big drunken party. See also Christmas, Halloween, and St. Valentine's day.
Happy Easter. Yes, a joyous occasion for Christians. Christ, triumphant over, Death, Hell, and the Grave. it is a central part of our celebrations! Thanks, REX
