Did Eric Buell Racing offer an ECM for an '06 Uly with stock exhaust or am I crazy? I thought I saw it offered before and I don't see it on the website. |

Email tech@ebracing.com and tell them exactly what you have and they will fix you up. I put their ecm in my 06 with only a k&n and opened inner airbox (homemade 07 style) back in 4/2010, and it runs better than it ever did. I LOVE IT. |

Interesting thread. I've sent a couple emails to Erik Buell Racing about this very subject, albeit on my 05 XB12S. They responded that they didn't program an ECM for a stock exhaust:
quote:Hello Nick, We find an ECM is really not beneficial with the older DDFI2 equipped bikes and a stock muffler. The calibrations were not nearly as intrusive on those bikes. Thanks, Michael
I'm not so sure I agree yet, if for no other reason than his wording of "...as intrusive". Just making a few quick changes in ECMspy made a huge difference. I'm more concerned with rideability, smoothness, and throttle response than outright horsepower. So, keep us posted on what you find. If Erik Buell Racing doesn't sell one, I'll continue down the path of tuning myself. |

"I'm not so sure I agree yet" I'd take their word for it. Not many companies are honest enough to convince you not to purchase a $250 part from them. |

I agree with you on premise. And FWIW, it might not be 'enough' to justify the expense and time on their behalf to develop. How many people want to leave a stock exhaust and get an tuned ECM? I don't know either way, but... Like I said, I've seen great results just tinkering in ECMspy w/o wideband tuning. Now that I'm set up with bungs, I'm ready to take a crack at it. However, I'd happily support Erik Buell Racing for a turn-key ECM if they offered one. |

How many people want to leave a stock exhaust and get an tuned ECM? A common problem with the Ulysses is that the ECM sits right under the seat where it sometimes gets "crushed", causing small cracks which create a problem. Mine is cracked. I don't need or want a "performance" exhaust, so the stock ECM is what I need. I would rather do my business with E.B.R. than H.D. inc. any day, so here I am. I'll email E.B.R. and see whats up. |

1324, I am one of many that run a race ecm with a stock pipe. |

I also run a race ecm with a stock pipe. I'd only be interested in an aftermarket pipe if it was quieter than stock. Since that will never happen... |

I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted this...but maybe even I underestimated the appeal of running a stock pipe. |

As mentioned above, I run an Erik Buell Racing ECM with a stock bike. LOVE it. I've had 2 ECM spacer blocks since the update came out and I run a tall seat, so there was no damage issue to my stock computer. I used to run the bike with the old Buell P&A "Race" computer and a Drummer, but the drone got to be too much on longer rides (like from MD to TWO and back in a weekend). I put the stock pipe and computer back on, let it relearn, and it still had the old stock "sneezy-snort" once in a while. The ECM I got from Erik Buell Racing cured everything, no sneezing, no hesitation, smooth power everywhere. Now, when I emailed Michael I didn't ask "how much HP can you get me?". I asked "how smooth, durable, and rideable can you make it?". I asked for a solid program that would serve me and the bike for years and years to come, with no gremlins. I think I even said "if I lose a couple HP that's fine, if rideability is improved enough". Dunno if I lost any HP, but I definitely am happy with the bike's character now. |

Yes, good information, Rat. Funny, because my response to the message I posted above was very much like what you typed. Only I never received a response. |

They have a great map for the 06/07 Uly. Think about it. Who up there owns one?
I'm sure there's a little "official research" that's been done over the years... |
