You're reasonably close to the Dragon. There is absolutely no shortage of good roads in the area. Lots of good info here: http://www.tailofthedragon.com Be sure and check out the "Wheels of Time" motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, NC. |

I know this may sound a little strange, but I always look forward to the Apple Barn. It's been years since I've been to that area. It's a retail store where they sell everything apples. Mmmmmm. |

+ 1 The Dragon + 1 Wheels Through Time Museum both of these attractions are must do's if you never have, and they can both be done in a day. it's a great ride from Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg to The Dragon, through the Smokey Mountains, toward Townsend, and across the Foothills Parkway. turn left on Hwy. 129 and your there. the good eats are in Gatlinburg. (my opinion) Smokey Mountain Brewery is my favorite. they have great pizza, and a full menu in addition. they usually have entertainment every night. I am partial to this place mostly because it's a micro brewery. they brew really good beer, and, on weeknights, after 9 pm, it's $1 a pint ! (can't beat it) you might also enjoy The Peddler. GREAT steakhouse. be sure and bring coin. lots to see and do in the area. enjoy !!! i never want to leave when i'm there. matt |

DOLLY WORLD !!! I saw Dolly there in our younger days. I don't think I'd want to see her now. =] The rides are a mellower variety but still fun. If you like twisties and don't mind getting wet, Stop at all the water slides on the sides of the hills by the roads. |

Get a map! Right out of town is New Found Gap. Do it early in the morning or in between rain storms on a cloudy day. Do not speed on this road.....just enjoy, do not go there on a Holiday weekend or nice afternoon, you will be walking the bike. From Cherokee it takes you to the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Awesome, beautiful, not crowded, but slow. Do not speed there. Leaving early in the morning, make your way over 321 to the Foothills Parkway, then to the Dragon. Come back to Cherokee on 28 then back over New Found Gap in the late afternoon. Don't wait until dark. From Gatlinburg the Cherohala is a full long day trip. So make it a separate day using the quickest routes to and from without stopping more than necessary. DO the Cherohala! Dollywood is great for a day. Good food is all over, from road side bbqs to local restaurants. One popular stop from the Cherohala is Lynn's Restaurant in Robbinsville NC, Great food and fried ice cream. Ya can't get that everywhere. Evenings just walking around the town are great too. When you coming and how long are you staying? |

Also in Tellico Plains (if you do the Cherohala) is the Tellico Plains Bakery, middle of "downtown"- INCREDIBLE food! If you make it to Maryville TN for some $$$ the Foothills Milling Company is true gourmet stuff. For a budget, and for fun, look up Full Service BBQ. Zack- have you booked a cabin yet? If not, check out Brother's Cove cabins- off of Walden's Creek, which is itself a fun backroad between Pigeon Forge and Walland TN. They have INCREDIBLE cabins- the grade up and down is very steep, be careful on 2 wheels- some of these cabins look like they were dropped in by a Skycrane... |

We are going to ride the dragon for sure!!!!! The micro brewery sounds like a good place to stop and hangout as well. We are going down may 9th thru the 14th. Etennuly-we have a cabin that we are staying in-booked it back in December- Cabin USA. Up in Michigan-we have no mountians-kinda nervous to ride-but at the same time super pumped!! Thanks for all the info guys-its nice to know some cool places to go check out when on vacation! |

There's a buffet on the main drag I ate at last year. I think it's call Woodside or Wood- something, can't miss it at the intersection. Absolutely huge, every kind of food you can think of. You can spend a whole day or two in Gatlinburg just walking around looking at the shops and if you're into aquariums they have one of the best. Of course I have kids so I get to do the kiddie stuff without looking TOO out of place. Oh, they also have a Mellow Mushroom pizza place. It's a chain but still good pizza. |

Also- if you make it into South Knoxville and you've got GPS, try to find King Tut's restaurant- cash or check only- great Mediterranean food, and a singularly memorable experience due to the owner, Mo, his family/staff, and the whole mojo of the place- ESPECIALLY if someone is celebrating a b-day or something. G-burg now has a bunch of zipline outfits- looks like great fun, especially with young-uns. You also can run north on 321 out of G-burg to Cosby TN, and find a Mexican Bluegrass restaurant called The Front Porch- if you're there on the right night, there will be some good pickin' going on... One cautionary note- in the peak season, ALL of Sevier County gets overrun with tourists, so plan your escape routes accordingly. I grew up with asthma, luckily I've grown out of it- but a few years back I had been riding my old BMW with a GF all over good backroads and ended up in G-burg- with all the traffic and maybe the day's weather, I could barely breathe- we hightailed it out of town and into fresh air ASAP. Just sayin'. Another neat place is the Pepper Palace, a store in the 3 story mall on the main drag that carries ALL kinds of pepper sauces, spices, salsas, etc.- the staff there is very proactive about having you sample everything- BEWARE when they offer a sample of the "hottest allowed by the FDA" and a chance to be on their "Hall Of Flame" picture board on their website- you can go back to 7/15/2010 and see a pic of me and my Dominican GF just after we'd both tried the stuff- YEESH that was HOTTT!!! Good luck! |
