Up for bids is prolly one of the rarest pieces of Buell swag I've ever owned: This is a 99.9% mint, 100% complete 1999 Buell American Motorcycles Press Kit. The postmark on the envelope reads "Jul 30, '98." This is a very thorough 42-page overview of Buell motorcycles for 1999, but includes so much more... ...including philosophy... ...a two-page history of the company... ...a one-and-a-half page biography of Erik Buell... ...and this pristine, never-been-used mouse pad! In addition, there's an eight-pack of magazine-quality color slides enclosed in a protective plastic sleeve included with the press kit... ...and four 4x6 photos I had made from the slides. There is also a seven-page DDFI Performance Guide insert - "The Basics of Buell's Electronic Fuel Injection System" - covering the what, why and how of Buell's Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection, including, among other things, an in-depth discussion of: - Throttle position (TP) sensor, - Cam position (CMP) sensor, - Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, - Engine temperature (ET) sensor, - Oxygen (O2) sensor, and - Bank angle sensor (BAS). Lastly, there's a one-page insert titled "1999 Buell Apparel Line - Vanson Leathers Licensed Products." This kit is in superb overall condition. In the second photo from the top you can see that the upper right corner has a slight bend in the cover stock, and the lower left corner has a more significant "contusion" in both the front and back covers. There is also a little bit of ink "staining" visible on the inside front cover. Other than these minor issues, this unique little piece of Buell history has been very well preserved and is in like-new condition. Starting bid $50, with 100% of the winning bid forwarded to Jim (U4euh) and Tonya Rainey to help them cover medical bills, etc. I'll cover the shipping and handling. Please dig deep, peeps - this is for a very good cause. Auction ends Wednesday 4/20/2011 at 11 p.m. Eastern Time, i.e., BadWeB time. Thanks for looking! The slides alone (which have been in every Buell Press Kit since 1994) are worth the price of admission. They have studio and action shots and the photography is amazing. Very cool item . . The 1999 always brings back great memories as I was doing test riding at the time and got to do 10 days of riding to accompany foreign journalists on a "secret" pre-launch press visit to St. George, UT and Bryce Canyon. The temps on 2 of the days were at 120oF and the riding was superb. I spent one day with Tim Carrithers and had a ball. The next 2 days I was assigned to take the staff from BIKE magazine out to get their photos. They brought what they called a "stunt " (wait . . it's not what you think) which was a professional stunt rider who served as a double by donning the riding gear of one of the magazine guys and doing some amazing riding. . . not unlike Howard Kelly and I did the day Jerry, Howard and I met Erik at Santa Cruz airport. The 10 days ended with a huge problem . . . the HD folks, who'd all ridden from Milwaukee to St. George, decided to fly back and Gary Cravillion was left with 19 bikes and hauling capacity of 18 . . . and these bikes had to be at the dealer intro in Philadelphia, about 3.000 miles away, in 3 days. Scott from HD was making arrangements to have the bike hauled to the HD LAX Fleet Center and FedEx'd to Philly. I told him he was nuts (an accurate statement) and to give me the keys. He seemed confused when I tossed my excess gear in the back of the Buell demo van and told Gary . . ."See ya in Philly". I told Scott . . "it's a motorcycle, why the hell would you mail it?" . . . and off I went for a great ride . . . day and night, arriving in Philly (and not without some adventures along the way) at 4:30am . . dropped off the bike, jumped an Amtrack train headed to Penn Station . . taxi to Vickie's house (we'd just begun dating) and slept for 2 days. Cool stuff . . . |

Ok, I'll bite on this one. I have a strange interest in things like this and the cause can't be beat. $75 from me. Let's just hope I don't start looking at this and decide I need a tuber. Thanks. |

Congrats Easy Rider. Wish I had made it back online to bid again. Don't we all hate how life gets in the way of our internet time |

$$ sent. Address sent. Many thanks. Chopped: It is unfortunate we can't do it all. In the end, you'd have only caught tuber fever and this would have cost you another three grand or so! For now the disease is delayed a bit. |
