But . . my current list is REALLY weird and . .
Same here - not long ago I went out shopping for a small pick up and came home with a turbo-charged hatch back. Oops.

Bads - I'm with you about the ride. My dad thinks every car I've had recently rides awful because of the sporty suspension. I think I'm just used to it.

>>>I went out shopping for a small pick up and came home with a turbo-charged hatch back. Oops.

Same boat here . . I had a very kind personal give me a gift certificate for a Porsche Cayman. I learned a lot about them, visited lots of dealers and, in all candor, the more I looked the more confused I got.

No doubt it deserves it's #1 ranking for the highest intial quality and folks, not unlike Buell, are rabid fans of the brand and the car.

But . . also like the Buell. . . the dealer network can be REALLY hit and miss. (By the way . . I had to call several Harley dealers today and THANK GOD Buell is free of that quagmire - two of the ones I called were a disaster)

In addition . . I started to seriously think about how I'd handle NOT driving a pickup. About that time the Ford Fleet folks, who I've bought over 200 pickups from, called and wanted to get me the first Eco-Boost F-150. I told them I'd call them back. That was about they time they handed me the $2,545 bill for the service on my 2006. That got me thinking mileage.

We bought the 201 Focus as a joke and the longer we have it. . . the more we like it.

It scats . . it's CHEAP (averaged 37.4 mpg from here to East Troy and back) . . looks good . . leather interior with heated seats, kick ass stereo with sub in the trunk, sumnroof and so forth . . You start looking at that $17,000 compared to $70,00 and my wife (although she'd not tossed in the towel yet) is less certain she has to have the E350C to replace her last one . . even she figured out that the option packages cost more than the Focus.

So . . I've looked at everything from Shelby and Boss 302 Mustangs. . the dealer has a Rousch Mustang . . some forgeign stuff and have, thinking I "needed" the truck . .gone a played with a Cayenne (love the headlights) . . .

Anyway . . I'm in absloutley no hurry and not hurting for anything to drive. I'm going to start trying to ride a bike to work more and cipher on the whole thing for a while . .

Keep thinking . . cheap, great MPH, can haul a dog, 2 guitars, wife and so forth . . .

We'll see

For me, it has to fit. I'm not tiny. 6' 220lbs. ( that latter varies ) bad knees, glasses.

Tried a Miata, loved it. Handled fine, very sporty ( meaning girls smiled ) had 1 tiny deal breaker flaw. They put the cupholder where my left knee goes. Too bad.

Tried my buddy's brother's S2000. Shift kit, suspension mods. With the two of us in the car, our shoulders rubbed. A lot. It's not like we were leaning inwards, they rubbed on the outside too. Like putting on an italian shoe. Too bad I have big feet. ( and I've driven MG's that required stocking feet, and liked them )

Tried a Mini. ( stock, not the cooper model I wanted ) Controls are nice, handling good, peppy, super cute, ( more girls smiling ) And no matter what I do with the seat, my knee hits the dash, hard, when I brake & shift.

Heck, I barely fit comfortably in my VW.

Wear them before you buy. Lunatic cars are fun, fun, fun. But if you can't go far without pain.... it's not the car for you.

Wretched excess is the point of some things. Wear your freak flag with pride.

That's odd you had a hard time fitting comfortably. You're less than 2 inches taller than me and I didn't feel the least bit cramped. Must be my stubby 30 inch inseam.

My Boss and his wife are both "good sized" so to speak...he is 6 ft 3 or so and around 270...she ain't a lot smaller...they have been on trips to the Carolinas from Florida with no trouble.

I swear a Mini is bigger on the inside than on the outside...mebbe Dr. Who helped design it ; )....

I don't know how interested you'd be in it, but my friend Paul, a local Pizzaria co-owner, has a super-clean, sweet Mini Cooper S that he'd let go for $12K, maybe a little less. He's here in Amarillo, but the car still has Michigan plates (he's from Michigan). It's a dark metallic green with black leather interior, custom wheels and bull guard. I can get a few pics if you want, just PM me.

Actually the Shelby and the Rousch are street legal . . the Miller series cars (shown in that ad that Ford mailed me) are not. . . as is pretty evident when you read the list of what's NOT there. . . cool looking car though.

Ford is doing some great stuff with the Mustang. I love reading the online Ford performance catalogs . . . you can buy about ANYTHING from Ford Racing.

Shelby pitted his latest and greatest race car vs his top of the line street legal Ford Shelby fully loaded. It won the drag race - no problem, and lost on the road course by only a second and change - a fully loaded off the lot street car - that car is awesome. All of Shelby's stuff is though.

My Ford rule/ promise is still in place. When the Ford family gets me a SuperBowl, my next new vehicle purchase will be a ford. Til then, can't buy one no matter how good they've gotten over the last few years.

I hate to say it but, your best bet for a Ford vehicle may for the Ford family to sell the team.
But then I cant say very much; I have Dan Snyder as the owner of the team I root for.

I can't wait to test drive one of the Eco-Boost trucks in order
to see for myself if they live up to the hype.

I've been drooling over Shelby's offerings for about 5 years now. The newest "base model" Shelby will have 630 horsepower and the top-of-the-line Super Snake will have 800 hp.

The new 'Stangs are nasty!

after driving most of the new fords (still dreaming for a boss to come in) the power of the ecoboost is suprising, almost seems like it would do a good job keeping up with the 6.2L. im starting to think a raptor with a 20mpg ecoboost would be sweet instead of 11mpg on a good day. ive actually gotten one to say avg 2.5mpg and thats not sitting still, my foot might be heavier than i thought.

The Stangs I think along with others these days will be coming to a end. Shelby in a interview I caught just a week ago or so is saying the same in so many words. He said he enjoyed very much the the 80's and early 90's helping with dodge Turbo cars..or pocket Rockets as he referred to them. He said hes working on such things right now and very excited that he'll be with Ford doing this.

google images "f150 Torque Curves" to see the power differences.

It is not worth the weight penalty of the 6.2 over the EB for the slight gain in TQ.

The ecoboost engine rocks. .... honestly, boost, good breathing, and moderate rpms are what get you optimum mileage/performance. On my short list. I'll probably get a 2011 Ford F-150 in about 4 years. ( or a '11 Diesel Van, same time frame... can't afford one new until the VW is paid for... and if they aren't good used, they aren't worth it new. )

What I really want is a turbo diesel in a 1/2 ton pick-up.

Scale up something similar to the turbo diesel that VW uses in the Jetta, put it in a pick-up with a manual transmission and I'd get weak in the knees. My '01 Jetta Tdi has been AWESOME, 40+ mpg, 200,000+ miles. The interior is falling apart, but the power train is rock solid.

ford actually had plans for a small european type diesel for the f-150 a couple years back then it just died when they threw the ecoboost in it, probably didnt help when diesel prices went back up.

Amen. +1000 A scaled up TDI would be the proverbial shizzle for a mid/full size light duty pick 'em up. Our TDI has been great for 170,000 miles. The wife is trying for 300,000 then we'll probably get a Focus.

Even with the Popular Mechanics website being the biggest pain in the ass . . there are some cool things there.

That Camaro will be "scary fast".

Why would you buy a Boss 302 (which I like as well as the Laguna Seca varianet) over a Cobra?

The Fiat 500, and I've no idea why, is interesting.

a 300HP mini? . . yegads.

The Fiesta I think I am going to buy for my Mom . . I just found one tricked out the way I want and still get my fleet discount. 40MPG is cool.

Lots of just plain fun stuff. . . .

I'm shopping for me at the moment . . but the more I look the more I like, with the exception of the 13MPG, the good ol' beater F150

The sad thing is that Ford / Mazda has developed a new Ranger that is now the same size as the Explore Sportrack (Tacoma sized).

But Ford thinks it would hurt F150 sales. They have the wrong logic. They should look at the New Ranger has hurting Tacoma sales.

http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/01/ford-ra nger-wildtrak-built-ford-tough-but-not-tough-enoug h-for-u-s/

http://www.caradvice.com.au/107302/2012-ford-range r-wildtrak-expected-in-australia-q3-2011/

There was even talk of a Raptor version of the new Ranger.
Humm....Vulture Ranger or maybe Falcon Ranger

Imagine the Ecoboost stuffed in a lighter chassis that is narrow enough to go down trails and still run flat out in the dessert.

I don't want a F150 it is too dam big, the wife would back in to stuff and mess up the bumpers the first time she drove it.
But give me a truck that can work for hauling the family around, towing 7.5k, get good mpg (27mpg)and sized so the wife can park it. Then I would finally have my next automobile.
