I have been shopping cameras for a while and from what I have read, "GoPro" brand gets great ratings and high reviews. It is one of the most expensive sport cameras on the market but comes packed with features and a lot of accessories are available.
I plan to purchase the GoPro Motorsports package. It has more features than the 960, has an expansion port on the camera, and comes with a wide variety of mounts.
The 960 was released later than the Hero original, at a lower price point.
Details...Go Pro 960 http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero-960-camera/ "Missing from the HD HERO 960 are 720p @ 60fps, 1080p video, and the HERO BUS expansion port in the rear of the camera that will let you take advantage of GoPro’s forthcoming BacPac accessories – LCD screen & Battery Extension – both important features for filmmaking hobbyists & professional videographers that are compatible with the original HD HERO camera." (Excerpt from 960 info page)
So it sounds like many accessories are not compatible to the 960.
They also make a base modle camera too, the 170. details...SD Hero 170 http://gopro.com/cameras/sd-hero-170-camera/ I think that there are other "Off Brand" cameras available that are as good as the 170 for less money.
There are many videos on YouTube to see the quality of the footage the camera films.
GoPro is one of the cheapest solutions for underwater video. I'm looking real hard at one for my next trip. It has some focusing issues underwater because of the shape of the port on the housing, but there's a relatively inexpensive fix for it.
I was just thinking of getting the same camera. I actually like the contour more if I were just going to use it on the bike, but the gopro can be used like a regular still camera as well. So I can use it for more than just bike video
If I had it to do over again, the VIO HD camera would be the one to have. And yes I do have a GoPro HD and the LCD, it's decent for the price paid and fills a few needs. that other cameras have a harder time filling.
