I heard about it from s Guzzi rider who was working at Sikorsky Helicopters for a short while. As he was preparing to leave Connecticut, he posted a picture and stated, "It was very south carolina style, even to the mustard based sauce. Of course, the south wins on bbq but this Seymour, CT joint sure damn came close!" He said it was one of the highlights of his trip. He also named a Diner in CT as another highlight, but I think I'll save that for another time. Hopefully, I'll see some or all of you this Sunday! | ||

It was very south carolina style, even to the mustard based sauce. Interesting- that's what they have down here in the lowcountry (around Charleston). I grew up a little further inland/upstate, and BBQ there is hot vinegar based type, which most people think of as North Carolina BBQ, but it's been around in SC at least as long. | ||

I'm really curious to know what passes for "South Carolina style BBQ" in Connecticut. Please post a report afterward. It's all about technique and sauce style (or lack thereof if your going the Texas route) - no reason it can;t be done well up here, just as there's no reason it can't be done poorly down south (which I've experienced). Some of the best I've had has been in places like New York, Ohio and Georgia. The worst I've had has been in New York and Kentucky. Carolina style is a little harder to find around here but it can be done. We have a handful of good places in the Albany area, though it's been way too long since I've been to any of them. Sounds like I have warming up to do before CT! | ||

Ha, thats funny. One customer review is for U W's in West Haven and Google street view shows a house, no rest. in sight. Okay, I'm just nit picking, still funny though. | ||

Actually, I'm more inclined to think it is the house. The one in West Haven is a converted house. Some of the Google street views are probably pretty old by now. They might not get updated often if at all. | ||

1:00 P.M. Remember, it's the location in Seymour, CT. There are other locations, as well; from what I can gather. However, it was the Seymour location that was recommended, so that's the one I figured it would be best to try. | ||

For anyone that's going, the map is wrong. Willie's is in a small plaza on Oxford Rd.(Rt 67)just north of the intersection with West St. Nice day today, took a pre-ride to the area and found this out. Just as I thought, the street views are old. There's a brand new CVS on the corner and shares it's driveway with the plaza that Willie's is in. By the way, that plaza is real small and set back from the street, signs poor, easy to drive right by. Look for the CVS and pull in there. | ||

Mike and Jamie, The Bridgeport/Port Jefferson ferry puts you about 25 min. away from Seymour. A quick ride up route 8 and you're there. Just sayin. | ||

Mike, I'm riding up with a bunch of guys from my club. We'll be meandering around working our way to the BBQ. I MIGHT take the ferry back rather than ride all the way around. I don't know... I'm not the designated "Road Captain" for this trip. Just suggested the end destination and letting our RC handle the route. He's a former Buell Ulysses owner (and former BadWebber) who has gone over to the dark side (Yamaha FZ1). I'll let him know to look for the CVS as the land mark. Thanks. | ||

I was thinking of you guys and can't wait to see the pics and hear about the food . . .I was within minutes of leaving and just had too much to do around the house. Looked like it was a perfect day for riding. |
