Well, my poor driving record caught up with my an I was dropped from my motorcycle insurance carrier. The only saving grace is I have two tickets dropping off at the end of the month! However, I was facing a suspended registration and I will be damned if I was going to park the bike the whole month of April to wait for those 2 tickets to drop off. I consider April the best riding time of the year around here. So yesterday I went in search of new insurance with bad driving record and all. I have my truck with Farmers, so I tried them first. No way. Not even worth mentioning. Progressive wanted $2,262 annually for: 30/60 Bodily Injury Liability 15 Property Liability $100 deductible Comprehensive No collision Geico wanted $531 annually for 30/60 BI Liability 50 Prop Liability $50 deductible Comp. No Collision Guess which one I went with? I am tickled that I finally get to support a huge supported of AMA racing and the RMR team.... If you are thinking about your insurance rates, try Geico. Getting a quote can't hurt a thing and you might be pleasantly surprised. |

Why pay for comprehensive, let alone a $50 deductible? Save yourself a couple hundred buck and ditch it. |

I use to have Farmers but when I got my Ulysses, they called it a high performance sport motorcycle and the rate They quoted me was outrageous so I switched to Progressive. All insurance companies are crooks, some are just worse than others. |

Why pay for comprehensive, let alone a $50 deductible? Hmmm. Comprehensive gets me the peace of mind that if someone rips off my bike, I have recourse. It's not a total loss. Even if I wad my bike, chances are it will be repairable and not a total loss so the astronomical collision premiums are easy to cut out. If it gets stolen, then I will probably never see it again, hence a total loss. That's my logic anyway. The difference between a $250 and $50 deductible was like $12 or $15. I thought it was worth it (12 month term keep in mind). I recently got stung for $1,000 deductible on my girlfriends car, so I am a bit gun shy about max deductibles. But your are right, in general I always keep the deductible high.} |

I am still trying to hook up with Geico but even their agent (who Richey Morris referred me to) said that it'll be tough since I've been with Progressive so long that they give extra loyalty discounts. AND I'M NOT LOYAL to Progressive, just going cheap. You want to know how to save LOADS of money? Wait another 20 years, I'll tell you. |

When I first got my bike I had everything through All State (two cars and a house) and wanted to add the bike to keep it all together. Agent said they didn't, as a rule, do motorcycle policies but he would run it anyway to see what it was. $3600 (bike only) annually was the best he could do. I almost swallowed my tongue, ended up at Dairyland for like $400. Now All State has changed their tune and are sending me junk mail weekly to insure my bike but they'll never get it. I'm currently with Progressive. |

I for some reason every year progressive and geico flip flop prices with me. One year geico is cheaper and then the next year progressive is cheaper so I just go with the one that is the cheapest that year when I renew it. |

Last time I tried Geico, I was rejected. They said, No - I don't think so... DUI 2001, a wet & reckless 2006, driving on suspended, etc... DUI drops off at the end of the year - Finally! |

progressive is a rip off. They were charging me double for 2 bikes. Now i use geico and pay 80 a month for both bikes. Progressive wouldn't let me put both bikes on 1 policy and i forgot to pay one and they put me into collections while i had there insurance on 2 of my other vehicles. FK progressive! And allstate was way to high and don't waste your time with farmers. |

DUI 2001, a wet & reckless 2006, driving on suspended, etc... Wow, finally someone who makes me look like an angel LOL. That DUI is a strange one for insurance purposes, seems like some insurance companies use it against you until it drops off after 10 freaking years and some ignore it after 5 or 7. Hard to put a finger on it and sometimes even the agents don't really know if it's being used to rate you. Frustrating for sure. don't waste your time with farmers. +1. They haven't embraced the 2-wheel crowd yet. } |

10 years? Crap, I haven't had one since April '95 when I was stopped for 94 in a 65. When I get the next one I sure won't whine the first bit as I've well gotten my moneys (or is it monies) worth out of that last one. Well, that and the fact that I hope I've become a little wiser. |

... and Progressive's head is a republican. yada yada yada.... I wish we did not know who company heads support, and I sure as heck wish they had no say in politics, but that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon (fact is, it's worse than ever). I just want to know who gives great service at a great price. So far, knock on wood, haven't needed to find out about the service part of that equation. |

Wonder how all the different offices and agents in the same agency treat their riders. I had Progressive during my "bad boy" period when I not only had too many tickets, I LOST my license in court and they never cancelled me. Sure I went to almost $2400 per year (basic required liability, $1000 deductible). Again, I'm an old fart so rates were cheap - even when I got my license back 18 months later. |

Progressive was by far the cheapest for the given coverage for me. Both my bikes (Uly & KTM) on same policy (full coverage on the Buell, liability only KTM) $323 annually. $60 discount for paying full up front, homeowners discount, some other discounts. $71 of that is the basic liability (State minimum) for the Ktoom. |

I'm 27 and pay $11 a month with Progressive. Clocked at 72 in a 35 three years ago in June... Farmers told me that they don't insure race bikes when I got a quote. They told me about $300 a month... |

I had all my coverage with State Farm (two cars, home and bike) until I was divorced. My ex kept the house and one car. When my first bill arrived for just my car it showed no more multiple coverage discount. When questioned my agent told me a bike wasn't considered a second vehicle. OK. I quickly priced out my car policy and went from paying $500 every six months to $350 with Geico. Nice, eh? When I called to cancel my auto policy you wouldn't believe how much attention I got from State Farm. The bottom line was they wouldn't meet the Geico quote (identical coverage to what I had with State Farm). I did tell them they better work damn hard to keep my bike policy and as a result I pay $107 every six months for full coverage (insurance isn't required in Florida if you can believe that). My philosophy has always been for that price you're stupid not to carry insurance on your bike. I'm 46, had my fair share of tickets and a generally clean driving record otherwise. My hat's off to Geico. I've been very happy with them for my car, but feel strongly now about diversification so I stick with State Farm for my bike. |

I'm always surprised in these insurance threads when someone gets reasonable rate quotes with "velocity awards" on their records. It always seemed to me that insurance companies, and Geico in particular, were always ready to jack up the rates sky high (on car insurance, anyway) if you had any moving violations. |

I quickly priced out my car policy and went from paying $500 every six months to $350 with Geico. Nice, eh? You can bet I will be pricing my truck insurance thru Geico as well. Good timing as my term is up April 29th with Farmers. SHould be interesting. I'm always surprised in these insurance threads when someone gets reasonable rate quotes with "velocity awards" on their records. IF you are referring to motorcycle insurance, it seems companies are all over the board. I get the feeling some don't want to deal with it so they price themselves out of the market. Also, I believe the relative obscurity of motorcycles (compared to cages)combined with underwriters' hugely varied risk assessment of motorycles leads to the wildly varying premiums. All other things being equal, simple changes of location (ie State) can lead to significant premium differences even within the same insurance company. I have literally been quoted $3,000 to $4,000 for 6 month collision premium (not even counting liability, comp) on my 1125R. I don't care what a person driving record might be, something is definitely wrong when they want as much in ONE YEAR of collision premium as the bike is worth. |

Try getting a quote from progressive on insurance with a 16 year old kid. My insurance went from $400 every 6 months on 3 autos to $1400 every 6. No one will even come close to this in Kansas. Next lowest quote was $1950. |

for the 16 year-old, would it help if you limited coverage to one vehicle only? |

Thats what I was going to look into, even if i had to go as far as giving her the car completely and doing the insurance in her name alone. |
