got back from the Dr. today after my ecocardio gram and was told that I have runs of PVC's. That is that pain that I am feeling. I was told by my Dr. to just deal with the pain and go about my normal business. The pain and shortness of breath suck nonetheless and now I just have to deal with this for the rest of my life has me a little depressed. Wish it was nice enough to just go for a long ride and put my troubles aside. Thanks everyone for the replies. Austin |

Before you resign yourself to dealing with it for the rest of your life, it sounds like it'd be well worth getting a second opinion. Hang in there. |

Getting a second opinion is a great idea. I have done it many times, always with good results. Now a days, it is very easy to research one's disease on the net, and it is a very good idea to do so. WebMd is very good site,- I keep it on my iPhone to check drug interactions. Here is another typical discussion of the problem: http://heartdisease.about.com/cs/arrhythmias/a/PVC .htm When a patient shows a knowledge of his disease, it shows the doctor that this is a patient who has high expectations of his doctor. That is a very good thing. Puts the doctor on notice that nothing but his very best game will be good enough. In addition, the more one knows about his health issues, the less anxious he will be. |

>>>>That is a very good thing. Puts the doctor on notice that nothing but his very best game will be good enough. Absolutely agree. My sole indulgence when I moved to NYC . . . arguably one of the health care capitals of the world. . . .was to find the best doctor and dentist. I spent a year talking to folks and pouring over all the various lists. The good news is that I seem to get healthier with age . . .but I still want my annual physical to be a REAL checkup not a 20 minute casual "how ya feelin?" discussion. 2nd opinions are, in my mind, always smart. I've a pal who was recently diagnosed with a condition, the doc recommended a procedure and he was feeling a bit uneasy (folks feel, it seems, like they are making the 1st opinion "feel bad" . . nothing could be less accurate) about getting a 2nd opinion. I think it's smart to . . . well be smart about it. |

You need another opinion. You need to get it from a cardiologist or an electrophysiologist who specializes in hearts. Bone up on the topic before you go. I am prone to atrial fibrillation (well controlled by medication) so I've learned a lot about this stuff. PVCs are usually considered benign, so many doctors prefer not to treat them at all, but they can be treated with medication. If yours bother you that much you should see what recourse is available. I got rid of my first cardiologist and now have another who is much more aggressive, and has a very different view of the condition of my heart (he thinks it's better than I was told). How two doctors can arrive at such different conclusions is amazing to me, but it points up the need to get another opinion. |

Called another cardiologist today and he asked me if the pain was manageable or not and to my surprise was told just by looking at all the charts and records that it could very well be more managed by medication if that was a route that I was interested in. I personally don't take medications and have a phobia about them, but I just can't "deal" with it. The problem is that with the medication I might be on will take the "rush" out of me.I will still have the condition, just more tolerable. I did a lot of research on what I have and it is more common then most would think of. The condition is PVC's in a row or V-Tach that converts back and forth from normal sinus to the V-Tach. So my second opinion was needed and puts me more at ease. Thanks everyone. |

Look up magnesium deficiency. A little extra magnesium will alleviate some heart rhythm abnormalities. A lack of magnesium can kill you. Of course you should speak to a Dr. (or 2). |

Pammy speaks truth. I almost died a year and a half ago from dangerously low magnesium and potassium. |

Yes, what Pammy and Blake said. I find that taking magnesium along with my regular heart medication seems to help. |

Couldnt agree more, Last year I had a stoke, turns out it was caused by a bacteria. took 23 doctors, 3 weeks to figure it out. I have the med bills to prove it, but go with your gut. i kept at them until they figured it out. if I hadnt I wouldnt be typing this. felt like a time bomb untill they sorted it. |
