Tough call James. I do the work on my own. San Diego Harley will take forever to get any work done on it. PM "Vosper" (Todd) http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/boar d-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=vospertw -users to see if he recommends anyone or Al from American Sport Bike(where you will be buying many parts from eventually). here is his profile: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/boar d-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=al_light on-users |

Are you sure it needs a stator and VR replacement? |

Well the bike is in North Carolina and I am having it shipped to San Diego. It runs, but only with the battery fully charged. Sounds like it would be the Stator correct? Sorry, very new to Buell's. My buddy turned me on to the ULY as I wanted a good touring/adventure bike. He has a XB12XT and loves it. |

Blackm2. I will check out both those profiles. I will get to talk to my buddy as well today (I am deployed in Iraq and it is a pain sometimes) and ask him where he thinks would be a good place. Thanks for the replies guys! |

Oddjob- A more likely culprit is a bad 77 connector. See this page for an explanation of what it is and how to fix it: http://docs.google.com/view?docid=d4rbxwr_20dq5khf Many Uly riders just cut out the plug all together and crimp or solder the wires together. You can also buy an improved plug from the dealer. Cost is ~$20 instead of the several hundred that a stator and VR replacement will cost you. |

+1 on getting Al's recommendation, just call American Sport Bike and he'll give solid advice every time. |

Thanks guys. I will check on the connector when I get back off deployment. The previous owner said he ran mobil one in the wrong section of the bike which can cause the stator to fail? I plan to call Al, I sent him a message on here to get some advice. |

Only potential problem with Mobil lube is if he ran Mobil 1 gear oil (or a similar lube intended for automotive rear axles) in the primary/transmission; IIRC the classification is "GL" lubricant. Mobil 1 motor oils are fine in either the engine or the primary. |

Ok I will have to get clarification on that. I would have to assume he did not run gear oil in there. Thanks for all of the replies. I need to delve deeper into the forum and start reading some more about the Uly! |

Most Uly discussions are over here in the "Big, Bad, & Dirty" forum: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/142838.html?1300731355 There's also a Uly "new owner" section you may find helpful: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442053.html?1238017122 |

Thanks a lot Hughlysses, I will check them out! Al got back to me on a shop in the area and I am going to contact them. I am sure I could do the work myself, but would be nice to have it running tip top when I return from deployment. |
