So I thought it would be a good idea to send an email to AMSOIL to thank them for supporting us and sponsoring our bike. I got a response today, so our letters and email are being read. If you havent written one yet, might not be a bad idea as they do this for advertising and profit. So let them know it's paying off. Here's the emails Mr. McBride, You are more than welcome to quote me if you like. There is a Buell enthusiasts website (badweatherbikers.com) and many of the members plan on switching as well. I think you'll find that Erik Buell has a very loyal fan base that will continue to grow with your help and support. Thomas ----- Original Message ----- From: McBride, Kevin To: Thomas R. Sartwell Sent: Friday, March 18, 2011 6:02 AM Subject: RE: Erik Buell Racing Thomas, Our Race Department shared your email with me. AMSOIL appreciates your support. We are excited to have Eric Buell on the AMSOIL team and fully anticipate a long relationship. AMSOIL President Al Amatuzio is considering mentioning Eric Buell in his monthly column in the April issue of the AMSOIL Magazine and would like to use your quote. We are asking your permission to so. Thank you in advance. Kevin McBride AMSOIL Vice President, Marketing and Communications From: Thomas R. That's cool! OTOH you need to write them another letter to correct them on the spelling of "Eric". |

I've had a co-op racing sponsorship with AMSOIL for four years, part of my responsibilties are to send in my race results to the head of AMSOIL Racing. They always gets back to me and I know they follow my racing blog and view my photos. AMSOIL is involved in several areas of racing and automotive events but continues to operate as though I am the only guy they sponsor. Not only is their product the best on the market, I'll continue using it because their people are also first rate as well! Kind of reminds me of another company we all know about!! |

Alright, let's turn this into an oil thread. 08 XB12XT up to 90 degree weather, what Amsoil do I put in the piston side of the engine? ", what Amsoil do I put in the gear-box? Where do I get it in North Central Illinois? I would drive the 50 miles to Erik Buell Racing if they stocked it. |

Ourdee- http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mcv.aspx There is a link in the upper right corner or become a dealer yourself. Been thinking of doing that myself. Best part is you can sell it online if you want. |

Thomas, If you go through the Amsoil online store, get the Preferred Customer Registration: 6-month Trial Membership for $10. If you order one gallon of 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, you will get a few pennies more than the ten dollars back. You can order at wholesale prices for six months. If I did the math right, at my current miles per year I will only change my oil once a year. |

Gabriel, Like Ralph said, 20W-50 Synthetic. I picked up a gallon. Quart for the gears and 2.5 quarts for the hot side. Leaves me .5 quart for oil filter changes. |

Ourdee, I clicked on the Amsoil site, and spent some time there. Read thought the motorcycle oils. Paying attention to the 20-50 and 60wt info, graphs, etc. Amsoil says 20-50 is perfect for the primary, but they say the same thing about 60wt. I had read over in the Uly board how somebody ran 60wt in the primary, and they loved it. Bike shifted really well. I will be running up and down AR to MN/SD this summer, and want something that will hold up to 10+ hour riding days in the heat. My Uly doesn't like to find neutral when hot, and I'm running amsoil 20-50 in the primary now. Was thinking about running 60wt. In the winter I run Mobil 1 15-50 in the engine. I tried it in the primary when it was warm out and it did alright, but not as good as the amsoil 20-50. Was going to try mobile 1 in the primary this winter, but there was no need because it was not time to change yet... I'm at the 10K mark on the primary now, which as I said has amsoil 20-50 in it. I had planned on changing it with the oil side (which is due in about 2k miles.), but the site claims in can go 2X oem, or 20K. So I'm just looking at options and wondering what to do. |

As long as we're on the subject. I never like those click to see what oil to use charts. Seemed to show more than one kind? I have an 08 xb12 California weather (not to hot or cold) regular rider any recomendations? I have the can't find Nuetral issue too.. |

I run 20W-50 in the race bike (XB12R) and in my 1125R. I change the oil in both at the beginning of the race/riding season, then leave it alone until the next season. As I've posted before, I have had oil analysis done on the race bike after the season the last two years with very impressive results. There is just NO need to constantly change oil with this product. I understand, it's a hard habit to break but the results show that changing oil early is just throwing money away. |

@ whisperstealth Try playing with the tension on the primary. Back it off juuuuust a hair and see if it makes it any better. On my XB, when I got it right, it was nirvana. R |

Carbon, Thanks, I'll try that. Well, actually I just adjusted it. It was too loose. I have yet to go on a long ride on a warm day, to see the results. But I'm thinking I might have it a little too tight now, we'll see. That primary chain is a golddie locks chain. Has to be "just right" it seems. and getting there has proven to be a PIA! 2008XB, Amsoil 20-50 is perfect for you I'm thinking. I lived in CA for 32yrs. South Bay and Sac. - I see your in the North East Bay Area, around Richman and Benecia. It can still get hot in the Summer, but not so cold in the winter to make 20-50 too thick. If your in a lot of stop and go traffic I'd reccomend 20-50 even more. For the Primary 20-50 is the safe bet. If you don't ride much in the winter, and ride in typical bay area traffic a lot during the summer, I would try the 60wt and see how it does. |

Easy way for me to find neutral is to use the thump thump of the v-twin. Put pressure on the shifter and raise the revs to about 1500 easy, snick, there it is. works for me. Only time I put it in neutral is when I park it. |

I've been using Amsoil for years in both trans and engine for years. The most noticeable change was how much easier the transmission shifted. |
