OK non buell rant. I have a 05 mercury Monterey and today the tranny took a crap on me. so after the tow home I get on the ol'laptop and do some digging and discover that there is a class action lawsuit against ford for the same thing that happened to me. To make matters worst Ford as of now refuses to to issue a recall so I may have to pay for the repairs. Unfortunately I have no money due to the fact that I have no job because the Bike shop I worked at closes down. FML
Sorry, Vent over.

The CVT? They're garbage. Almost no one makes parts for them yet. One from Ford, if I remember correctly, is pushing $6,000 installed.

How many miles? You might have some luck if you kick and scream politely, plus have a decent relationship with a Ford dealer.

Though the CVT transmission dates back to Leonardo da Vinci, they still have problems.

How many miles did you get out of your transexual before it failed?
Perhaps you can get a used transvestite from a junkyard?

The Monterey, is the same as the Freestar right?

So it uses the Ax4n or 4F50n (same trans different names). I think you can swap in up to 2007.

When you put another one in, INSTALL A TRANSMISSION COOLER. They have have heat issues that brake down the tq converter clutch and internal clutches. And do pan drop fluid changes every 15k.

I am have 172k on my Taurus and it is still going strong. knock knock

I found this last night
"A class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford Motor Company (“Ford” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Brooklyn Office (styled Judy Azose v. Ford Motor Company, Case No. CV 10-3634) alleging, among other things, that the transmissions and torgue converters in Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey 2004-2005 model year minivans suffer from an engineering design defect that manifests itself when, without warning or prior signs of transmission problems, the output shaft splines in the torque converter split and the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles suddenly lose power and cannot maintain speed or accelerate, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

I just wish I could find out what the status of it is. Anybody got any ideas on how to do that?

Our company has two Ford 2006 diesels and 1 2008 diesel, all 1-tons.

They are broken as much as they run. They lose injectors every few months at $1,200 to $1,800 per trip to the shop. The EGR coolers have gone out in all of them at a couple of grand per. We can only afford to keep two of them running at a time so we make payments on three and leave the one with the most expensive current issue parked. Right now the 2008 is 150 miles away getting it's second EGR cooler replacement. One of the 2006's is parked broken, and the other is going to pick up the 2008. We hope it makes it, no one is confident.

OOOh a hate Ford thread! Let me jump in here.....I got one also!

I have a Ford 6.0 diesel a 2004. Thankfully I can do the work required to keep it running in my shop, even at that, it is a grand or more a shot when I open the hood.

I got a folder with the truck when I bought it last year. The company who owned the truck paid Ford service shops one half the cost of the truck when new to keep it running after the factory warranty ran out. Ford paid out more than the original price of the truck in repairs during the warranty period.

I am about to tear it down to install a couple more injectors at a cost of about $300.00 each plus gaskets and misc materials to where I will be spending nearly $900.00, with no labor costs. And they have proven that the next injector could go bad anytime and the new one that is being installed is subject to be the next to fail.

Twenty thousand miles ago I spent $1500.00 on the engine to FIX the egr system. That price also is without labor.

If you hit Ford truck internet forums you can find that the problems were extremely wide spread and well known by Ford and International, but unresolvable due to noise reduction and emission requirements.

Somewhere in there is a solid engine with some over engineered noise reduction and emission systems that do not sustain themselves for periods of more than 50,000 miles.

Since it was new, counting only engine repairs, just over 35 cents per mile has been spent on this truck to keep the engine running for it's 175,000 miles. I guess that does make it suck to be a Ford owner.

I don't like thinking about the revenues lost when it is down for repairs.

Yeah, the EGR coolers go out every 40k-50k at $2500 with labor. We replaced an entire bank of injectors three months ago and three out of four have failed again. Of course, the injectors are buried so it's not an easy fix.

Ford would be out of business if they stood behind the Power Stroke engines. However, I guarantee there a plenty of companies that have gone under paying for fixing the damn things. Over the summer the repair expenses on the damn 2006's made us miss payroll. If our credit didn't suck so bad from the building products crash then we'd dump ours and get something else.

I have 7,3 liter power strokes As a Ford alumni i knew the higher rated and lighter 6 and 6,4 liters were going to be a problem The 7.3 was powered down yearly to meet emissions standards. I just retired a 95 e 350 with 600k on it it has had injector wiring harnesses and 3 transmissions 1 to a tech doing burn outs and 2 due to over loading 17k in the truck and towing the tele handler trailer another 14500lbs. Ford sued International over the 6 an 6.4 I need to replace some trucks this year may be the the ford built diesels and or the new direct injection gas motors time will tell

My boss has a '96 F350 with a 7.3 and auto. That tank is freakin' indestructible..he did twist a couple of sets of U-joints out of it pulling his 26 ft boat up a boat ramp.

I bought a '99 Ranger for those "caging around" times...at 121k it needs some front end work pretty soon...but the paint and body (plain white) are still beautiful. The parts will cost about 500 bux for top of the line Moog parts, and a Saturday fiddling with it. The lil ole 2.5 does not use a drop of oil between changes..and it gets 26mpg on the highway...it was worth the 2800 bux I paid for it...it's not as cool as the heavily modified Jeep Comanche it replaced, but it does the job.
