We usually use diesel from the local Sinclair. In Wyoming, when on the road, you don't usually get too many choices. The HP oil pump, injectors, ECM, are still problematic though. The 2006 that we can't afford to repair right now probably has a bad HP oil pump, according to the mechanic. $450 just to do the tests so we are holding off for the moment. We replaced the EGR cooler in that one a week before the HP oil pump (or something else) died. |

I meant #1 or #2 diesel We use #2 in the south. try adding some Marvel mystery oil in with your fuel lube up the fuel a little and see how the injectors do. In fla we only get #2 I suspect the lighter low sulpher #1 and blended fuel is your injector problem |

OK, I'll try & be helpful & constructive here. First thing. Are you sure it's a CVT? Reason I ask is according this article, http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2005-me rcury-monterey.htm it should have a 4sp auto. I don't know diddly about those models as we don't get them here, but the principles are still the same. Next thing, when you're certain which trans it is, what to do. A, it's a CVT, they have a notorious reputation, you have 3 choices. 1. you either bite the bullet & have it repaired or replaced with new, fully documented & guaranteed, then try to claim your money back. 2. You find a cheap used from a breakers, swap the trans & out the car before anything else goes wrong. 3. you convert it to a standard 4sp trans using used parts. B. It's a 4sp std auto, you either have it overhauled or replace it. Bear in mind that transmissions are pretty standard & you can probably fit a tranny out of various other models. Hope this helps you some. |

No way I'd ever buy a CVT. They just LOOK like they're going to break. I've decided the simpler the better all round. I won't even buy another standard auto. ~SM |

I was a dyed in the wool Chevy man coming up..All Hail Zora Arkus Duntov and the mighty smallblock!!!! But after it became gubment motors and they quit making "small" trucks...I was in the need for a small truck when it came time to put my beloved Jeep Comanche out to pasture. (Discovered it had terminal body/chassis rust). It was truly one badass little truck....anyways I bought a used Ranger and it is great...All it has taken is normal maint, a set of tires and the usual items to keep it in good shape. Saturday I spent a whole 179.00 buying parts to rebuild the front end...and another 45.00 for brakes...looking forward to a nice play day when the parts come in. (I have access to a complete shop with all the tools and goodies ) I have already soaked down all the bolts and such with seafoam spray...I love the simple design...by the time the machine shop finishes turning the rotors, the front end will be done and ready for the brakes.. I might get frisky and treat it to a new timing belt too... |

I have it running well again. This diesel is costing just over a thousand dollars a month for mechanical parts for the past four months. That is just mechanical parts, not my labor or fuel or normal maintenance items. Way more than payments and insurance would be on a new truck. Fortunately I have no payments on it or I would not be able to keep it fixed like Spatten and company. I own a truck repair shop, so I specialize in repairing and maintaining used trucks, but I cannot afford to keep this thing going. If I could sell it to one of my customers then I could start making money with it! Time to let it go while it is in good running mode. Might be good for six months or six days who knows, but I cannot continue to waste my time and money like this. |
