We are watching economic, environmental energy, and social devastation within the world's #3 economy. We are witnessing upheaval, unrest and revolution across the oil-rich N. African/Middle-east region. Another of the PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) countries in the Eurozone is floundering, facing economic and political crisis, following Iceland, Greece and Ireland. All the jokers in Washington and at the Fed seem to be able to do is to press the "print" button on the money machine. Is anyone else troubled by the confluence of these issues that affect the globe? |

Nothing to see here. We learned our lesson with the last 2 wars to end all wars. It will never happen again. |

I read something about 2012. Something about human nature, if you tell them something bad can happen, and you show them enough ways to make it happen, and keep telling them it will happen.....usually it will happen, if for no other reason than it was forecast. Schooling fish. |

I think George Orwell was a bit closer to the truth. He just missed by a few years. |

HEY IF THE MAYANS KNEW WHEN the end WAS COMING WHY DIDN'T THEY KNOW WHEN there end was coming. Today is the best time on earth for man slaughtering his fellow man it's at an all time low believe it or not. Natural disasters happen the Earth is moving a bit thats how it goes. GOD loves us no worries as long as we love him back I mean that. |

I quite like the idea of immortality, but only because I always wonder what's around the next corner. |

One thing I believe is that politics will get more divisive here and abroad. This surely has been so in the last five years. Funny thing is that after seeing some of the Revolutionary War and Civil War history in Charleston and the WW II ship USS NC in Wilmington... I am fully confident that man as a whole will never be able to learn how to not self destruct. I really hope I am wrong. I will start practicing metta again... I know that I have seen the enemy... and that enemy is me. |

Char - having been a one-time Psych major, anthro minor (before engineering) - I can conclusively state that tribalism is the NORMAL STATE of mankind. Any other thought is wishful thinking. Look at union/non-union Religion v religion Left v right any shade of "US v THEM" Where NO lines exist, we CREATE divisions - if you don't think so - talk about Japanese bikes on Badweb or Harley. The main difference in the past couple decades is the explosion of communication. The PROBLEM with instant communication is that it is entirely superficial. People THINK because they've posted someting, emailed, or e-petitioned that they're somehow empowered. Change on this planet has rarely come without a price tag. Not saying that's good, just how it's been for a few millenia. All the more reason I desperately avoid getting sucked into the predictable econo-politico-socio-impotent discussions on sportbike boards. (yet I still often fail at this, too) |
