SELF!!! No, what I mean is ... as I was stating this to my gf, "I was saying to myself the other day...." She interrupts me and says "SELF!!" as though we are playing tag and now I am it... and then laughs. HUH? WTF? It doesn't friking make sense!!! I just don't get it. Do you?? If so.... please explain it to me. | ||

Yes, I agree. 120% When you refer to yourself as SELF... but when you say "SELF" in someone else's SELF sentence... it doesn't make sense at all to me anyway.. it drives me nut's. Not even in the same category as the infamous: "I know you are, but what am I...?" (I love saying that to kids who have never heard that saying before,.. it becomes their favorite sentence for the next 3 weeks driving their parents nuts ...Muwahahahaha!!!) | ||

Interesting...I have a friend who I have known since 2nd grade. He has always seemed just slightly off but he is a great person none the less. Well, he is like a karaoke king (again, slightly off but entertaining) and one of his go to songs is Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and every time the line "and I say to myself, what a wonderful world it is" he barks the word "self!" into the microphone just after he say's MYSELF...and then he just keeps on singing. He thinks it's hilarious and I just don't get it. But now with this girl friend thing of yours it's got me wondering if this is some sort of movie reference or maybe a cult.  | ||

no man... she swears that it makes sense and gives the impression I am the one who doen't get it. In your friends scenario, he refers to what he said to himself (SELF!! sorry had to...ARGH) earlier, past-tense, then he states how the conversation went when he says SELF out loud. That makes sense imo. My scenario would be like ME singing that song...and the audience says SELF, which (unless your drunk) doesn't make sense at all!! (that might be what your friend is going for too?? Drunken college thing? She even told me, someone at her work did the same thing to her when she said the word "myself" in a sentence. So now she is in her glory. | ||

rotfl...OK... gonna have to rent both of those. Thanks Xdot. That will do... I still don't get why she would say SELF when "I" am saying the word myself in a sentence. Sentence: I can say to myself, SELF, why did you say that?? |
