My son is station in Las Vegas and is set to buy a bike. He doesn't know anything about them and being a 19 year old hard head.. I just had to talk him out of a 12 year old r1 with lots of mods. It's his first bike. So he doesn't want to listen to the old man when I tried to talk him into a blast or ninja 250 or the like. But he did like the sv650. Better than an r1 I figure. Anyway I want to find someone who can help a kid out (and a dad) and maybe make sure he doesn't get taken. or buy a pos. Any help would be really awesome. Btw his price is about 3k Thomas |

Recomend a KLR, or SV - plenty of both in Vegas, just checked, and both would be cheaper on his insurance, he's not rich, remind him of that - lol - Thomas email me about a ride. EZ |

Las Vegas is surrounded by a lot of dual-sport stuff. I'd lean toward the KLR as a versatile bike. It's a little heavy off-road and not the best street bike but a good compromise. |

will do Ed. Friday is Giovannas bday so Sunday I'm taking her to a place we found in Sonoma that's really good. But I might try to sneak out for a super early ride as My riding time is waaay down. I just sent him an email about a dual sport. I'll deffinatly be praying on this kid on a bike. He's got a hard head and he's accendent prone. |

KLR all the way! It was my first street-legal ride. I got 28,000 miles out of it before scary sounds started to come out of the engine. (Turned out to be loose cam chain) |

KLR is a great bike for a All-Rounder and you can get them cheap. They're easy to work on cheap to insure and can be farkled up cheaper that a set of tires on my XB. I have one in the stable and once you take care of the weak spots, Eagle Mike Doohicky and A Thermo-Bob and they'll run for years. It'll go just about anywhere ya just can't be in a big hurry to get there. |

Does he have a preference of street (SV) or dual sport (KLR)? I think in 2003(?) the SV went to fuel injection but they ALSO went to the oddly-cast chassis that didn't crash as well (I raced an 01 and crashed a LOT) Either way, you're not going to go wrong and the aftermarket and user community is ENORMOUS. That being said, the XB series are going pretty cheap and they come with GOOD suspension from the get-go. In order to make the SV handle, you really need a lot of work. |

He wasn't to keen on the klr. I think it would be awesome for LV. I mentioned the SVs as I heard good things and the price is right. And really I'm trying to get him off the I should get and R1 or 6 idea... so the get a ninja 250 or blast wasn't working so I threw out the SV and he liked that idea. I would love to see him get an xb but haven't seen anything under 3k |

Careful on racebike purchases. MANY of them have gone unregistered for years and often have had frame and engine swaps. Makes it all but impossible to return to street. IF VIN for chassis and engine match, you can pay back-taxes and register (unless the guy was a "good taxpayer" and kept PNO active) |
