Airweight J-frame .38's are nice, too. They disappear in a good inside the waistband holster, pocket holster, shoulder holster, in addition to many other modes of carry.
Editted to add:
Since you asked about pros/cons of inside the pants holsters, I'm assuming that you're somewhat new to carry.
Some pointers: a good belt and a holster specifically designed for your pistol are very important. I would recommend a quality leather or kydex holster designed for your model of pistol. The reasoning for this is twofold: specifically formed holsters have good retention--the gun isn't going to fall out easily, and secondly, you don't have to worry about anything getting into the trigger guard (safety), etc. The nylon holsters that "fit everything" tend to not have very good retention (the gun may fall out or flop around--usually at a very bad time).
A good belt is also important to support the weight of the pistol. You can get "wilderness instructor" belts that are sufficiently sturdy for around $30, if I remember correctly. If you like leather, they can get kind of pricy. I got mine from "the belt man" (google it if you're interested).
As for inside the pants or inside the waistband (IWB) pros and cons: I would say the biggest pro is that the lower portion (barrel) of the pistol is completely concealed. A con would be that if you buy pants really tight, you may not be able to fit the pistol in your waistband easily.
I don't carry yet as I have been trying to wait until I find the pistol I want for the right price. I do not like these single action polymer pistols every one else likes I feel more comfortable with double action metal body pistols and my favorite two are the 1911 and the p92...Maybe that is because they are the two I have most experience or not but to me they just feel right in my hand and I figure If I am going to carry something it should be something I am comfortable with. How ever I was thinking of getting a little .38 revolver for a daily carry type weapon since they are reliable small and get the job done.
Ithaca 37 police model in 12 is my favorite house shot gun Love to have SPAS but little big in the house. 1911 for jacket wear ccw Bersa 380 for a short sleeve day thinking about a XD 45 Glocks have come a long way I broke the first 4 I shot in the first mag factory ammo too
Pammy we know how to handle you sweet kind words Kindness is a weapon hehehe your really a sweety you just dont want any one to know
How about a Beretta compact Storm in 9mm, Not shot mine much (less than 1,000 rds.) but what a smooth shooter and nice controlled recoil!
Holsters.... I think my next high quality holster/belt is going to be a "Highnoon" brand. On the higher priced side but why would you put a great weapon in a cheap holster and belt??? Their belts look to be of premium design and quality. IWB holsters seem to conceal the best, sure do like pancake though for comfort.
What ever you get, Get the good stuff! What is an extra $50 to $100 in the long run! Go for it.
I am sort of waiting to see what the new Ruger LC9 feels like
I am new to carrying and like the input as to what people are comfortable using. Obviously it differs. The holster I bought, honestly, is more than likely not going to be what I use. Although it is designed for my gun, I'm not expecting anything great for $20. Under Florida law, as long as its holstered with the strap clipped or in a zip bag I can have it in my glove box without the glove box being locked. CWP or not... I can't count how many rifles I've fired but I'm totally green when it comes to pistols. Hell, tonight's gun class was the second time I've ever fired a pistol.
side note on your new Smith & Wesson. Today I hit the range... I shot off 450 rounds through 3 different guns.
I have been buying cheap ammo to test and see what my guns like and don't like..
I found everything I had worked great EXCEPT my Smith and Wesson SW99 HATES Monarch 9mm BRASS rounds from Academy Sports and outdoors.
They recently had it on sell for $8 a box of 50. I bought a dozen boxes thinking it would be great practice rounds.... ITS NOT! for the box of 50 rounds I had 21 jamming issues! 21!! Thats horrible! BUT, Monarch steel 9mm shot just fine! the brass is crap in my S&W and it appears it is junk in most S&W guns. But ive been told Glocks will eat it all day long...
Personally, my 'choice' weapon is a 50cal 48" barrel PA flintlock rifle. 80gr with a patched .490 ball and I can shoot dimes at 100yds all day. Well...until it gets too hot to hold on to.
Oh, and no serial numbers...no waiting period...and not another one like it.
But I am in the market for a dark hallway clearing weapon of some sort.
9mm? The last Pope took three and survived for decades. But, my first H&K squeeze cocker had over 10K rounds through it and worked fine. They don't jump and are darn accurate. My second has had 1 magazine through it. Also, H&K model 91 .308, & a dandy H&K SP89 with factory shoulder holster. And the Mauser pistol my gramps brought back from WW1, complete w/wooden stock into which it fits, a Ruger Bearcat my dad bought me when I was a kid for our hunting trips, his .38 Special Model K S&W and the ex-Delaware State Police Remington 870 w/ 8 shot magazine that I bought to carry in my airplane in Alaska, though it got used for several seasons on the ice cap by a guy brought up to keep the polar bears from eating the scientists. It now lives in a trombone case "travel case" in the closet. Alternate 00 buckshot with slugs, buckshot for the eyes and slugs for the shoulders & head.
Why do polar bears lick their butts after eating? To get the taste of scientists out of their mouths.
Ha Ha Steve. I had to go back to my dictionary after seeing your post. Sometimes I use words that pop into my mind then I have to go and verify that they mean what I think they do. I am not an erudite individual by any stretch. If you ever talked to me(which you have) you'd swear I wear burlap underthings as has been proposed on this very site.
And to add to this thread, I too am of the mind that one shouldn't broadcast one's armament...not in detail anyway.
The best gun to carry is one that you are comfortable and proficient handling and shooting. That is my opinion of course. I would hate to be apprehensive about my weapon should the occasion arise that it was all I had to depend on.
I only have two of mine in the house. The rest are in a vault about 2000 miles away. Just never thought I'd be stuck here as long as it's worked out to be.
