I'll be in Syracuse this weekend. I have a mandatory NYSMSP update on Sunday. I'll be heading up Saturday and plan on having dinner at the Dinosaur while I'm there.

Anyone in town??

50% chance of snow showers that night, I don't feel like crashing 200 miles from home. I will see as we get closer. : )

I thought about making the ride, but it's supposed to rain both Saturday and Sunday, with temps in the low 40s. I don't trust my gear to keep me dry, and hypothermia is not something I want to deal with right now; so I'm afraid I'll have to pass.
The Syracuse Dinosaur is the Original and still my favorite.
I will be buying an Aerostich this summer

If the weather is bad (I'll be checking the radar maps Saturday morning) I'll be there by car. Right now I am planning on riding (but it'll be my Beemer, not the 1125R... too much crap to lug up for the update).

Welcome to Syracuse. It's a little early for bikes; very few "windows of opportunity". We've had 160 inches of snow this season and with the few thaws the piles are diminishing. Low temps in the single digits and teens recently have slowed the retreat of our glaciers. The melting during the day freezes at night and can be unpredictable. Side streets, under highways, parking lots all can have residual ice from the melting. With the warmer weekend the roads will clear up a bit, but water on ice is treacherous; some rain is predicted. Main roads are clear with salt residue/dust.
Two weeks ago it went up to 50 degrees and I used that "window" to take the Uly to the dealer for them to check out a disturbing noise that developed late November. Short ride but sweet. We all know cabin fever. Have been tempted to get the Firebolt out but... well, not yet.
Don't mean to discourage your desire to ride, just a forewarning about the area. Use your best judgment and welcome.

It's looking more and more like I'll be taking the Subaru. Don't relish riding all that distance in these temperatures in the rain. I also have to consider the temperatures and road conditions up there and you make a good point.

Damn, I HATE going to a motorcycle event in my car, too.

Anyone have a weather update for Syracuse for me? I'm checking the websites, but local expertise is always welcome.

From Intellicast. com: Details for Saturday, March 05
Showers early becoming a steady light rain later in the day. High 44F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
Evening: Cloudy with periods of rain. Low 41F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall around a half an inch.

Details for Sunday, March 06
Rain and snow. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper teens.

I'm not local, but that forecast is enough to keep me home.

The forecast presented by Crusty is pretty consistent with local and other web forecasts. The most optimistic forecast shows only showers Sat. pm not steady rain.

Crap. I REALLY wanted to ride... if for nothing else, the savings in gasoline. Looks like I'm driving.

I'm still going to the Dinosaur Saturday night for dinner, though.

I was just looking at the weather radar, and it makes me glad that I didn't go.
Jaime, I hope you didn't ride, and I hope that the food was even better than usual.

That's the first time I've ever gone to ANY Dinosaur for dinner. Holy CRAP but does it get crowded!! Especially on a Saturday night!! I'll never do THAT again... if I can't get there for lunch, I'll pass.

I waited for over TWO HOURS, but the wait was worth it. Knocked down a "Tres Hombres" platter and a pint of Dinosaur Ape Hanger Ale for dinner.

And I am glad I listened to "Common Sense" and took my car. The area got hit Sunday with a winter storm that dumped up to 10" of snow in the area. The drive home was not something I'd ever want to repeat but I am EXTREMELY thankful for my Subaru! I drove over 100 miles in the snow at night. Couldn't see road markings and used tire tracks as my guide.

At one point on Route 17 there was an uphill section that was so steep there was a pile of two-wheel drive cars just spinning and sliding all over the road but not making ANY forward progress. Only I (and a couple of SUVs) got through that mess.

FINALLY around Liberty, NY the snow changed over to rain and I was able to see where I was going. Got home a little past midnight EXHAUSTED.

Be glad you got out Sunday night... It kept going all night to a result of about 18 to 24 inches depending on where you are. Pretty much everything was closed today. Good side was I got to stay home from work.

Tbolt: My original plan was to get the Porksket sandwich, but the longer I stood around inhaling the aromas around me, the hungrier I got. Imagine that? Maybe they do that on purpose?

We should setup the Dino tour, Rochester, Syracuse and Manhattan. That would be a hoot! I'm at the Big East this week, does anyone know the subway between MSG and the Dino or is it a cab ride? never been to the ManHattan location.

Crusty, I bought the Aerostitch, while it is dry, it is not warm. Think of it as leathers made from cordura. In the low temps the armor hardens up making the suit a pita to put on. That said, I high sided my BMW in the summer, got about 6-8 ft up in the air and rode away with some bruising. It is an awesome product. Although it might not exactly fit with the Dino decor : )

Jaimec, glad to here you made it back in one piece. There was more snow that night than most places get in a year!
