so the other day my wife decided to clean the windows in the dining room and wanted to take advantage of the "tilt in feature"

she tilted one of the windows in and cleaned it just fine, and then went to the second one and she tilted it in and then a loud snap with the end bracket falling off and landing on the floor and the string for the balance snapping back up into the window,

so i removed the balance and other broken parts, and have no idea what kind of windows they are or where to get replacement parts,

well since we are renting the house and they worked before we moved in, its on us to have it fixed, i consider my self pretty handy being a mechanic and all, but some of the stuff around the house puzzles me a little at times

so if anyone has dealt with something along these lines any input on how to identify what i need and where to get it would be helpful.

Generally the inside edge of the window sill will have a manufacturer sticker, i would start by checking there

We just went through this with our church windows. A rep came by and walked through with us. There should be, on one of the windows, usually at the top, a small label with the manufacture's name and some other numbers. Those other numbers are run dates and lot numbers. If you can find the label the manufacturer should be able to help you out. On our double hung windows they were either on the top of the top window or stuck inside the frame up top.

Good luck.

Assuming these are vinyl, I'd take the parts to a local window supplier. Also look for any etchings in the glass for product info or on the lock mechanism. Maybe on the sides of the window sash, might be a bar code or any sort of i.d.
I don't recognize the parts your showing- good luck.

Try Blaine Window Hardware. They are located out east and have a smaller branch here in the Chicago suburbs (Stone Park, Illinois). They are listed on the internet. They carry parts for all window manufactures. If they don't have the parts you need, most likely your not going to find it then!

If you can't find their website, pm me and I'll look it up for you.

Big Red, the picture is a little fuzzy, but that looks like a fairly common balance. The ends can often be different from window to window, but they build them that way for different companies and applications. As cyclone said try the Blaine catalog, or a local glass company should be able to locate it for you if you have trouble.

Check the corners of the glass. They usually etch the manufacturers name in one of the corners. It's usually really small but readable.
