Pedestrian Is Struck And Killed By Motorcycle in Winter Haven Published: Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 10:44 p.m. Last Modified: Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 10:44 p.m. A pedestrian was killed Sunday morning when he was struck by a motorcycle in Winter Haven, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. George Scott, 65, of 39 Key West in Winter Haven, had just walked out of Lake Shipp Heights, the mobile home park where he lived, and was walking on Lake Shipp Drive when he was struck about 7:55 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said. A 2008 Buell motorcycle driven by Patrick Keith Polk, 36, of 2578 14th St. S.E. in Winter Haven, was traveling south near the 1600 block of Lake Shipp Drive when for unknown reasons it left the road and struck Scott, according to the Sheriff's Office. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. Polk, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he was stable, the Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's officials asked any witnesses to the accident to contact investigators. Hate to read this...The best to Mr. Scott's family and hopefully Polk pulls out ok. |

I hate to read these things too. did a quickie search and sounded like the cyclist was "impaired". Also sounded like the initial impact must have knocked the rider out and he fell off the bike some time after the impact. After my search, four different versions of the events were reported so who knows what really happened? We can all agree that it sucks though. |
