I didn't know Rotax bought the engine rights back from Harley... maybe I've been half asleep but that's great news
Thats the big detail that got my attention. That swings the door WIDE open. I think we may hear Erik Buell Racing and Rotax in the same sentence more frequently now. GIGGITY!!!!!!
"Selecting appropriate dealers is the next step for Erik Buell Racing. Buell says he doesn’t care what brand(s) a prospective dealer currently sells, but he insists on them being passionate about sportbikes."
Well, that certainly rules out any Harley dealerships! Erik is distancing himself and his company from harley as much as possible.
There are Harley dealerships with passion. Some of the dealerships never invested any heart. Some were all in, and some still are. I believe Erik is building his business and doesn't have any time for negative non-productive activities. Harley was a means to an end and pushed him when he needed it. Even out the door. Sure they tied his hands and sometimes his feet. Because of the torments he went through we get to ride Buells. He remains a class act. Not all people can make the climb without stepping on others. He said he is in deep. I think that means he has given more than most of us could bare.
"We don't always get what we want, but if you try real hard, you just might get what you need." Yea, I twisted it a little.
>>> It was the 1125RR with homologated 1190 parts.
It was homologated in 2008 long before there was ever an 1190RR. It would probably be more accurate to say that it was an 1125R with homologated 1125RR parts.
It may be a simple mistake, but it gives the unfortunate impression that Buell has been racing the 1190RR in AMS Superbike, which an uninformed reader will likely equate to the new 1190RS. It's very poor and misleading reporting. Excusable for a run of the mill newspaper maybe, not for a report from a place called motorcycle.com.
>>>>Well, that certainly rules out any Harley dealerships! Erik is distancing himself and his company from harley as much as possible.
Both of those sentences are inaccurate.
Thats what I was thinking Places like Ukes and Hals (just to name two close to him) were big into Buells, I doubt he'd cut Ukes off after all of these years just cause they have a Bar-n-Shield on the doors.
I think it shows great character of Geoff to stay with Buell and continue racing for them. I can't wait to watch the races and cheer for EricBuellRacing. Hopefully speed will give some credit to Erik and say his name more than once.
I like Geoff and am pumped that he's riding for Erik Buell Racing, but don't kid yourself, if the money was better somewhere else, he'd follow it. It'll be great to see him beating the former Erik Buell Racing 1125RR racers. It's too bad the RS won't make the season opening.
I'm going to miss Shawn Higbee in the 200 this year too. He finished 5th and I think he could do better.
If we'd have been on the ball, we have put together our own BadWeB effort for the 200 this year. I just plain dropped the ball on that. Maybe next year.
Actually Kenny . . you are dead right. Geoff, just like Danny Eslick, mounted a season last year that brought him lots of attention.
It was a HUGE deal that Geoff passed on some amazing offers to stick it out with Buell during a critical phase. This is going to be a exciting year and I can't wait to see Geoff on the Buell at Daytona and will be eagerly looking forward to the 1190RS debut.
I think a Badweb effort for Daytona next year would be incredible. It'd be interesting to get some folks together, form a single purpose syndicate, buy an 1190RS, hire a rider and campaign it for 2012. I suspect we wouldn't be the only group doing this but I do know some of the talent that his quietly lurking and watching here and I'll be it'd be fun.
First step would be to get a group of folks willing to ante up like $5,000 each.
I asked Scott Kellerman at Antelope Valley Buell (and HD) - that very question. They can NOT be restricted from selling "other" brands. We're here in the Desert and dirt bikes would be a big seller as would be street/cafe bikes.
Face it, if it weren't for Buell, I'd have NEVER set foot in a Harley dealership - but since then have gotten to meet and know some truly great people (along with some total jerks)
>>>is it possible H-D won't allow their dealers to sell Erik Buell Racing bikes?
That would be illegal.
Harley-Davidson, within certain provisions (i.e. you can't film porn with their bikes in the photos) has no say in what a dealer does or does not sell.
I was just at a Harley dealer in Abilene Tx, that Is a Harley, Suzuki, and Honda. Thought it was interesting. Couldn't see why certain Harley dealers couldn't sell EricBuellRacing bikes.
Well, that's good, because some of those HD dealers "got it" when it came to Buell, and are still doing a great job... I have nothing personal against HD dealers as a whole, or H-D motorcycles, or even HD riders, as a whole. I only have issues with individuals, whether they are dealers, riders, or upper management...
My sense . . . without knowing or asking a thing . . . is that Erik, free of outside constraints will seek to establish the best dealer network possible.
Imagine . . . . . for a moment if you cold start from scratch, free of owed favors, rules and "long time convention".
This is shaping up to be not only a win-win deal for us as Buell owners but perhaps a glimpse of the future of motorcycling.
I've likely been to more Harley and Buell dealers than any two folks on this board combined. I've seen some of the worst and some of the best. There are some I'd never want associated with Erik Buell Racing, but there are some I'd darn sure hate to be without.
