I always thought the "No Fear" stickers were labels letting you know there was no reason to fear that person. |

We might as well chat amongst ourselves while we wait to here what happened. Thoughts and visions of Okra are making me hungry! |

+1, what Pammy said. The feminine side of vengeance is brutal. BTW, what's up with homie needing to shower so much? Obviously this is an "in", possibly useful for behavior modification. I have no experience with social media other than the BW, but would it be useful to work those angles for the shame factor? I also appreciate the mommy factor- don't forget about poppy too, maybe he's got a dad that'd smack some sense into him. Consult regularly with your other roomie to coordinate tactics, hopefully homie will grow up. Keep us posted. |

I would never have guessed that this would have been such a popular thread. I am currently working on a remotely operated actuator that will turn on and off the hot water from my room. He is gone for the weekend so it gives me plenty of time to rig up the apartment. Also the internet now has a mac filter. I think those two will be a great start. 2 minutes into a hot shower and the water goes ice cold should be funny....so he turns up the hot water and its still cold until the hot water comes back on and its really hot. |

I'd be careful about turning the hot water back on. Scald him and you can get sued. |

Just turn the hot water on for yourself and the other one of the two guys (if he is paying)... and leave it off at all other times.........should be safe. |

I warned my son about having roommates. He decided a few years ago that he wanted a pit bull, while he was still living with us. So guess what. When he moved out he doesn't have the option of getting an apartment on his own, he has to rent a house with a yard. $3300 a month. He has five (5) count them, FIVE roommates. All the bills are in my son's name. People IMMEDIATELY began flaking on him. It's been an ongoing issue. Using up all his interwebz and phonez and cablez. So guess what. He shut off EVERYTHING. Paid it all off, and shut it all off. People started disappearing. Good riddance. Once he got rid of the bad ones, I helped him get by until he found some decent paying roommates. I think he has learned his lesson, running CREDIT CHECKS on all applicants. It's a lot cheaper than the previous method. Shut him off, kick him out. |

had roomates once, 4 of us living in 800 sq ft! only one guy was a flake when it came to paying bills, after about 6 months it came down to one night sitting around drinking and playing play station and another roomate getting up to make a pizza and finding it was gone, and it just so happend that the "other guy" came in the door, he got the crap beat out of him and kicked right back out the door, didnt see too much of him after that! |

the water heater takes about an hour to reach a temp thats good for showering. It will keep that water hot in the tank for several hours. you must turn on the hot water 1-2 hrs before your shower, then turn it off just before you shower so that you use the hot water in the tank before he can get to it. unless you install a control valve in the plumbing, more work and more expense. Good luck, I hope he freezes his cheap ass off! |

there is a shut off valve in the plumbing already...I decided instead of electronically controlling the valve I can just put a lock on the valve in the off position. |

I think Pammy's approach has further reaching potential: If he has to move out from not paying the bills in your apartment, he might end up moving back home with HER!! She might even start paying the bills herself to avoid that scenario! Imagine having your MOM paying your bills after she scolds you for embarrassing her! I'd move out and start living under a rock! |

the latest update is, I did an average of the per person monthly expense and figured out an estimate for the next 5 months we will be living here. I then added that cost to his balance and divided into a weekly figure. I said that he has one week to pay his first payment and if he misses it then he loses internet, power in his room, hot water, cable. So we'll see if that works. |

I do like the mother approach and for those of us with personal pride and dignity I think that would work. I do know his mom and have a pretty good idea that if I told her she would pay up. From my recent experience with her child he would easily take the money and keep living the same way. He may still call on her when I shut off his power but thats on him then. I may just keep that as my ace in the hole. |

While some of the suggestions posted have been funny, don't do anything that is going to put yourself in jeopardy of being arrested. I work at a small police department and trust me, people will take out warrants on someone for the smallest of things. Good luck with resolving your roommate issue. |

And don't let him have access to your toothbrush either... You may be young, but you seem to be mature. Good for you. |

Why are you giving him a week? He's already had 7 months! I had a roommate that had this chick friend (she wasn't a girlfriend) who, over the course of 2 months or so, started to pretty much stay over nearly every night, cook meals and shower in our place. The excuse was that she lived a little bit out of town and it was easier getting to class and such from our place. Eventually we sat him down and told him she either needs to contribute towards the bills or stop staying over so often. It took some conversation but he finally saw our side and conceded by saying, "Okay, just give us a couple weeks to figure out schedules." Uh, no. There's nothing to figure out. She had her own place, that's where she'll be sleeping now. That was pretty much the end of that. |
