I just got a call from a guy from Oklahoma wanting to know what the value of his 1995 Buell S2. Color is Yellow Jacket Pearl, has PM Wheels and 7000 miles. Has the signed points cover by Erik, along with letter of authenticity (not sure if that's special or not. He bought it new and said he was also sent a letter letting him know his bike was now in "Collector's Status" (not sure if that's possible) He is a self-proclaimed country boy without a computer, so I have no pictures. I told him I'd try to let him know the possible value. |

Everything is possible, and is correct. The S2's were declared "Signature Series" bikes and got an engraved/silkscreened points cover, a letter, and a "trading card" with the bike number and specifications. YJP is one of the rarest colors, if I recall correctly. 7k miles....wow, it's gonna need a service and new gaskets. That's not many miles at ALL, and I bet you could ride it for 100 miles and it'd be weeping from every single gasket. Nothing major...just time consuming. Value? All over the map. There's been S2's selling for 2k in excellent condition, and folks getting close to 5k for "so-so" bikes. The book is out the window, so it comes down to what does the owner want, and what can he find someone willing to pay. Swing over to Old School Buell, there's an S2 forum there. Fskinner would know more than just about anyone there; send Frank a PM and see what he says. Hell...he might *buy* the damn thing. I don't think he has a YJP yet |

Ask him if it has any blistering on the fiberglass bodywork. They are very time-consuming to restore. The early 95's had a unique set of triple trees. I forgot what it was about them, you'll have to ask Court or S2pengy. The collectors point plate and paperwork are the real deal and add to the value. Based on what I've seen if the bodywork is blemish free and he has the paperwork it's worth $8000.00+ to the right buyer. |

The early '95's had machined top triple trees, while the later ones were stamped. |

Bart, the later ones were cast, not stamped..8K sounds a bit on the high side. Maybe more like 6 |

There were (I think, I'd have to look) 3 different sets of triple trees. Somewhere I have the VIN of where the running changes were made on the line. Lately they've been going lower . . I think the 6 is closer. Check with Frank Skinner and he'll be able to dial in the value pretty darn close. |

Thank you, I'll check with him. I told the guy with the bike anywhere from $2-5000 (Message edited by cochise on February 25, 2011) |

The S2 had CNC machined rather than cast front fork triple tree. I know that this ran through at least 1995 V.I.N. number 416, but I don't know how much higher. The Lower triple tree change with replacement of the bolt that secures the top triple tree. This can be identified by the hollow I.D. of the lower triple tree shaft. This took effect with 1995 V.I.N. 817. |

They're priceless. If it's in really good condition tell him to hold out for a good price. If he prices it too low it could get snatched up by another chopper builder. I'd say for a 8-9 out of 10 condition S2 he should ask around $5K. If it's 9+ condition, I'd ask for $6K+ or "make offer" Of course if he needs to sell it faster then he might have to come down. But have him post up here and other Buell forums, or post it up for him. It's worth more to Buell owners than the general public, and it's less likely to get chopped or parted out. There are people that will travel a long way for a prestine S2. (Message edited by Not_Purple_S2 on February 25, 2011) |
