Really looking forward to the 1190RS to kick some butt when it debuts at Infineon in May and I wish nothing but the best for Erik Buell Racing which brings me to a question.

With my current 1125R I know I, right now, have the best handling "street" bike I could have. Plenty of power, exceptional handling and comfortable enough to do in excess of several hundred miles a ride and I am an older rider. Its a piece of cake to do!

The 1190RS "looks" to be more race oriented, which it should be, and what I believe Erik wanted from the beginning at least, to be back in business (racing) right now.

I am wondering if nothing much changes with it for the street will it be as comfortable to ride a long ride as many of us like to do or will it be closer to a Ducati 999/1098 which I would not like to do many long miles on.

Does anybody, except Geoff May have enough time on one to tell? Of course opinions are appreciated, just be accurate. Speculators need not apply. Thanks, Bob

Short answer, Nope. : )
(I'm sure everyone at Erik Buell Racing has had some seat time on it though!)

Since you don't want my speculations, I'll end my post here.

I'm sure it's seen it's share of jaunts up and down Buell Drive, at the very least.

That's speculation Indy, there's no room for that in this thread.

Erik Buell said something to the effect that the 1125R should have been classed as a sport touring bike. If a person could speculate from that statement the 1190RS wouldn't be a comfortable bike as the 1125R. The 1190RS is being built for one thing to make it legal to race AMA superbike.

I'd be willing to take custody of one of each, and give you all a detailed monthly report...and then a long term test summary, after a year or so.....

Bob, the pictures of the 1190RS you've seen IS the street version, nothing is going to change.

Bars appear lower, pegs and seat higher, minimal padding on the seat at best, it's a race bike with lights, no more, no less.

Very similar rider ergonomics to a GSXR1000. So make the comfort pre-judgement based on that if needed.

Do the 1125s handle better then the XB9s do?

My 1125CR is a better handling bike than my XB12R was.

Thanks to all, speculators included. Looks like its first and foremost a race bike in street trim. I believe, keeping my 1125R, I STILL have the best street bike available. Time to go find a canyon to ride. Well at least after the snow melts up higher and patiently waiting for Erik Buell Racing and Geoff to kick some race bikes butts. See you guys at Millers in May. Bob

Interesting question. I would say my 1125R is a better overall handling machine than my 2 XB9Ss. However, on a REALLY tight, technical back road (read lots of 25mph switch backs) the steering was a bit quicker on the XB9S (probably due to the moto style bars and shorter wheel base). In all other cases, I would say the 1125 has the XBs covered. High speed cornering stability on the 1125 is top notch.

That would be great.. The gixxer is one of the more comfy sportbikes out there--relatively speaking.

I haven't ridden an 1190RS, but spent quite a few miles on a B2, which had (sad that is past tense) an almost identical riding position. The bars were lower than with a 1125R, but you could sit further forward than on a 1125R/CR because of the shape of the airbox and seat, and the seat height and seat shape/slope were very different. The net effect was both very sporty and -- suprisingly -- very comfortable, though the B2 seat pad was certainly more street oriented than that of the 1190RS. While the riding position triangle -- bars, pegs, and seat -- was (and is for the 1190RS) very similar to that of the Suzuki GSX-R1000, the bike was quite a bit narrower, especially at the knees. I could have lived with the B2 readily as my main streetbike, and actually preferred the riding position over that of the 1125R, but I also wouldn't take it over a Uly if I had to cover 500 miles of Interstate. Keep in mind that the 1190RS is a very focused and intense race replica looking for small volume sales; I wouldn't assume it reflects the same comfort/performance trade-off that Erik Buell Racing will apply to higher volume motorcycles.

Also, what was raced last season was a 1125RR, with the homologated 1125RR engine parts from 2009. The only changes the AMA allowed that I know of were to the radiators and a few of the front brake components, all parts that Erik Buell Racing would have incorporated or updated in any 1125RR ordered last year.
