Reep, It was a good time. For the record, you interrupted Happy Hour, and it's good you got a hold of me when you did or it may have been a bit until the truck made it up the hill to get you. Definitely don't head out on a bald Sync or you end up with this goon:
Breaking the bead on your 'new' Uly with a bench vice.
HA! I finally found those pictures! |

>>>>I still owe Alex beer though... You should not have agreed to that . . .you'll never live long enough to pay that one off. Very cool! . . and . . mayhaps the very best part of motorcycling. I confess . . . I always think Big Jim is making sure we have a better time with each other than we deserve. |

Barker, I will be flying up there on March 9th, getting in around 9:30 pm. The seller said he'd pick me up at the airport and then we'd do the trade. Figurin' on grabbing a motel room and taking off bright and early if all goes well. If it is the same bike it is different now. I know the tank cover, air box, and side scoop are painted gloss black, pipes aren't wrapped, and the shock is black. (Message edited by Breadman on February 24, 2011) |

Breadman, Congrats, you're going to have a ball. I wouldn't sweat what to take. You're only a day away from home, and if something goes wrong, U Haul it back. But nothing is going to go wrong, you'll have a great trip. Make sure it has good tires on it. |

Some tricks for long trips with the X1: get it to about 72-75 miles per hour and the wind will float your upper body if you lean into it just right. You can drive it with you thumb and forefinger on the throttle like this Also, lean on the tank with your left elbow and drive with your right hand. Move your butt around on the seat often. Use your passenger pegs from time to time. Every time you stop for gas, drink a juice. Other stuff to remember: your belt is the same as any EVO sportster belt. It can be changed on the side of the road in under an hour. Though the first belt I changed took me hours since I didn't know what I was doing |

Harbor freight bead breaker? Good. No Mar tire changer? Better. Alex? Best. Defiantly my preferred tire changing machine... |

As Nate says, the 'happy place' is 70-75mph, at least on my bike. Before I forget, a quality tire gauge. Does wonders for tire life and handling. |

I'm in Nashville too. When you coming? Supposed to be nice weather this weekend with a slight chance of rain on Sunday. I'm teaching an MSF course at a location right off I-40 (you'll be passing within a mile of me on your way to TX). |

Wow! I just finished reading Jlnance's epic trip report of his cross country adventure. If you haven't read it it would be well worth it: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/681 7/312289.html Fantastic story of an adventure made better by all the people that got to play a role in it. Thanks Jim. Kinda makes my little day trip seem a bit more manageable. Spencer |

Spencer: Make sure you read about X1 hiccup in thread listed below, so if you have it too, then check out that connector over by the oil cooler for a tight fit and disconnect/reconnect it and head down the road to see if it improves your ride. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/617553.html?1298926165 Best wishes to another X1 Lightning owner. |

Thanks Two Seasons. I have been paying a lot more attention to what's going on with the X1's and tubers in general. I did take note of that particular thread as well. The seller was able to take it to the fine gents at Bumpus to have it checked out. The only issue found was a bad voltage regulator. Fixed. Everything else seemed to be in fine order. 75.5 more hours. SS |

good luck Breadman and have fun. Be sure to take pictures of this bike when you get it home or on your trip. Also stay safe. Lastly if you have not ridden that long of a distance in a long time or ever taking some ibuprofen before your ride may help with the soreness you will get the next day. |

+! to traveling with your gear ON, and your helmet and gloves in your carry on. And NO checked bags. Did TWO of these Fly N Ride adventures in the last six months. 2000 miles in August, then 1700 miles in January. TSA has a 7" tool limit for carry on, so I left the long wrenches at home. Bought automotive tire inflator, repair kit, oil, and whatever else I needed once I was on the road ASAP to avoid flight hassles. Enjoy! |
