We are flying into LA late at night next month. My wife is worried about where to stay & if it is safe. There are quite a few low dollar places near the airport and I was wondering if that area was ok. When we flew out of LA 2 years ago we stayed in a nice place a couple miles south of the airport & it was fine but a bit pricey for a late night. |

There are good and bad around the airport. But it's been awhile for me so I'm sure somebody will help you out with the best spots. If not p.m. me and I'll call my cousin that still lives down that way. |

My cousin from Arizona stays at the Best Western hotel in Lawndale when she's in town. It's in a good neighborhood, on a main thoroughfare and within 5 miles from LAX. They're OK with pets too. |

Two years ago while on a trip out there we stayed one night in San Jose. On the website the motel looked nice and was a reputable one. I always wake up early and go for walks when I'm on a trip with the family. After I had gone several blocks I realized that maybe this wasn't the best neighborhood to be walking around in. I guess the big wall all around the place should have been a clue. |

Airport area is pretty safe. Just don't go too far east. El Segundo is very safe. Beach cities, also safe. If in Torrance, my home town, stay west of Western ave. A lot of the flight crews stay at the hotels near the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, close enough (15-20 min) but also more affordable than "right at the airport." |

I too live in Torrance. Stayed at the HoJo (on Torrance Blvd. in Torrance)2 nights last week (termite fumigation.) $200 out the door for a "mini suite." Close to eateries, the mall, movies, etc... Lawndale is not a place I'd like to be at night. |

Ditto on Lawndale. You need to keep the doors locked. Beach cities are pretty close. How many nights are you staying? Where do you plan on going while in town? How far you willing to drive to get to a place? (Torrance is just half-hour-ish, Marina Del Rey is close, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach... all purty nice) |

Coming out to visit my niece in San Diego. She is joining the Navy and will be out of the mainstream for awhile. Wants to be a fighter pilot. The reason we are coming into LAX is the 4 tickets are much cheaper than SD and we want to see someone there before we head south. |
