You need to do it through a nonprofit orginization they have license for those type of things I believe. What you could seriously do iscontact said orginization sell raffle tickets but sell 450 of them have them buy the machine tax free give it to the winner and keep the rest for there troubles. I would try Masons or Knights of columbus lodge even a local Church I bet would be willing to do it. |

"Sell 400 tickets for $200 a piece. Winner gets a bike and Erik gets the other one!" No need. I'm in for 1 and willing to give the bike to Mr. Buell if I win. Just like Two_Seasons. This is actually purty easy to do leagal-wise. A non-profit will need to come on board and we need to check state laws on applicable taxes and such before deciding on which non-profit to hook up with. If Oregon works (I have no idea) I have 2 I could talk to here. The hard part is the "cat herding" of getting all the pledges to pay up. One nice point is that if the winner wants to give the bike to Erik, the shipping should be way cheap. Another nice point is that 1 in 400 is really good odds and a $100 chance at those odds on $40,000 aint bad either! Can someone post that vid here on this thread of the interview where he said he would love one but couldn't afford it please? |

If this happens perhaps one of the "Elves" could do it and run it outa home base with say something like no one from Erik Buell Racing can enter or win There is another way but tax problems may come of it not sure. We get 400 people to buy an Erik Buell Racing t-shirt @100 each with the purchase of this special shirt you get a ticket one of them will be THE GOLDEN one!!!!(que in I've got a golden ticket Willie Wonka" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjv_JKVnIKw |

I love the t-shirt idea, thats how i used to run my college party's, buy a cup and get free refreshments. but if, no when, we do it lets make it 10% more $110 or whatever and give it to a needy charity maybe all the involved parties could vote on a list of charities. Can I buy 2 tickets? |

As far as the T shirt idea, that's all well and good but this is for a vehicle with a title. Somebody's name has to be on it. It works best if it's not mine. Even better if it's a non profit organization. Which brings up the next hurdle. There will be some additional costs besides just handing over 40k and rolling the bike across the room to the new owner. One of you egghead types needs to grab the reins here and figure this state tax thing out. It's probly more complex than that in reality. Not only is there gonna be some additional unforeseen expense incurred with the purchase and subsequent transfer but the non- profit should be donated to. Absolutely and as well as we can. With this in mind, there will be no problem securing a legitimate non- profit organization and this will make the road ahead smoooth. |

usually on vehicles, the tax is where you register it, i.e, im in illinois, if i win i would pay the sales tax here in illinois, which would be close to 9 percent, which would translate to somewhere around $3600. i think this raffle is something we could make happen. im wishing it does...we could sell a little more than 400 tickets, and donate the over 400 tickets to a non for profit host...or if we could get ebr involved via t shirts at 100 a pop, i think its def doable...im hopping so...it would be a win win for buell fans, ebr, and badweb. |

Like I said a church can do the entire thing easily and if we give em 5K 450 tickets I am sure they would be willing to do it. Fire co as well hell they do it all the time around here. The non profit org would have to lay out the 40K for the initial buy though that is gonna be tough to get em to do however if the church board has the idea of selling say 600 tickets well as long as the odds are under 1000 :1 I'm in!!!!!!! And the purchase would be tax free if a nonprofit org pays for it. I am gonna talk to the local rotary as well see if they have an intrest, Especially if I tell em I got about 100 presold tickets |

This would be something for Erik Buell Racing or an established non-profit (as Brumbear notes above) to do, not us. I'm not willing to take on the effort as part of BadWeB. I doubt anyone here is willing to shoulder the responsibility of such an effort, which would need to include arranging the purchase and delivery of the bike. FYI, the winner of a bike in any such raffle would likely be hit with a significant tax bill, both federal and state (when registering the bike). >>> Another nice point is that 1 in 400 is really good odds and a $100 chance at those odds on $40,000 aint bad either! I'd suggest, as Brumbear already hinted, that if you think 1:400 are "really good odds", you'd be WAY ahead to put your $100 on a number at the roulette wheel where the payout is 36:1 and the odds are 1:38. I don't like gambling. Don't want to support it here. |
