I'm curious if anyone has used the brand. I picked up a Motorcyclist mag today to read at work and saw an add for these tires. I've never heard of them, but looked them up on the net and their prices seem to be not to bad. So I'm wondering if anyone has used them before and what your impressions of the tires were. I normally aim for Sport Touring style tires for the longer life. Those in these brand would be the 011 Verge. |

Aren't Shinko tires the former Yokohama motorcycle tires? |

I have a set of Shinko Ravens on my bike. They are ok. They are a harder tire so I am getting better millage. I had Pilot powers on it before and it took a little to get used to the different tire. Over all though they are a good commuter tire, and an ok tire for the twisties. I never have done a track day on them. |

ive run tehm on my 9. they feel heavier than otehr tires. i lost the profile on my rear. it was mostly flat and was more rounded near the chicken strips. made for slower turn in. no they are not pirelli's. but they were guud enough for me. i've seen them on an 1125R on commuter duty, and several other XB's alot of people will sneer at tehm, but often those nay-sayers do not have first hand experinece. if you can wait for a sale; you could find a better tire for an equal price. |

I use them on my M2 and like them. Ran them hard and never felt unsafe. I will probably always buy them for that bike as I don't use it as often anymore and I don't want to spend a bunch on tires if the thing sits most of the time. |

I have a set of Shinko Advance 005's on the 1125 right now and like them. I'm not a super aggressive rider and unfortunately most of my mileage is highway commuting. I also run Ravens on my ZR-7.I Plan on replacing them with the same. |

I ran a set on my XT. They are a fine tire for the money. Wore very well. I cupped the front one forgetting to air up a bit for a long road trip but other than that had no problems at all. I can't say that the Pilot Road 2's I'm running right now have any advantages I can perceive. |

Hm, the reviews I've read on them state they are a good budget tire. No one has mentioned any feeling of unsafeness on them. Might consider trying them. |

Here's what the set I had looked like at just under 10k miles. I don't race, I don't do ton-up speeds or cornering. I have never felt unsafe on these Raven 009s. Note the tread left in the center on both tires. What is not apparent in the front tire is the scoop wear in the cornering patch. rear:

I have a set of the Ravens on my M2. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending them. I'm approaching 4000 miles on the rear. The most I've gotten out of any tire is 4200. I am considering going with the Verges next. They are also a sport touring tire. For they money, they stack up favorably against any single compound tire on the market. Shinko purchased the molds, carcass designs and rubber formulas from Yokohama when the factory burned. Yokohama used to be involved in motorcycle racing and still are in auto racing. They are a little heavier than the newer tires simply because they are using technology that is a little older. Unless you are racing or running 100% on the street, they should do fine. Cycle Gear has a deal on the Ravens for $165 shipped. |

Thanks for that input. I ride street 100% of the time and never push my tires to the limit. Normally I have 1/8-1/4" of chicken strip left on my tires. If I could get 10K out of a rear I would be ecstatic. These seem like a good deal. I'm not to worried about tire weight as I am still riding on the street. I just want a really good street tire that will last a good amount of miles and sticks well for the street. Anyone see any problems running these tires on an XB9SX or 1125R? |

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/402/116/Motorcycle-A rticle/Shinko-Stealth-Tire-Review.aspx They did a test of the Shinko Stealth using a STT. I think it would be fine for either the SX or the R. I talked to a couple of guys at Puckett's a couple of weeks ago. Both were running Ravens. One was on a VFR the other on a Blackbird. For street, you should be fine. |

Thanks Ft. I should apologize a bit. I think I may have come off a bit harsh in my last post. What I meant to say was I like to hear from those who've ridden on these tires on the street. I'm not looking for track performance. I'm looking for spirited weekend performance in the tires. |

My tires have been good for me. I have never done a track day but I do get a little spirited on the weekends some time. The shinko's just had a different feel to them than the Michelines I had on before. Once I felt them out I felt comfortable on them. Over all for the price a good tire. |

Ryan, I didn't take your post as harsh at all. |

What model tires were those of you who've used them using? Was there any slipping in the corners on them or anything to make you feel left confident? |

I used the Ravens. No slippage what so ever right to the edge of the tire. If you want even more "stick" you could go with one of the "intermediate" rubber compounds. The Stealth is the stickiest. |

My understanding is the 009 (Ravens) are normally seeing millage of up to 10,000 miles or more. What would I be looking at with the intermediate ones in millage? |

I have the ravens. I ride in all weather, never had any problems in dry or wet conditions. Just the profile of the tire was different from my last set. |

I have been running the 009 on my Uly and have found them feel like they are hunting around a little, not out of control but they do move around a little and with the round profile they require a little more effort to turn in than the Scorpin Sync, my problem was tire life I only got slightly over 3,000 miles and was down through the wear bars on the rear the front is still good for another 3 to 4K. I just mounted up another 009 rear and this time I put in Dyna Beeds for balance to see if that will increase tire life any. So far balance feels good and thay don't shake, hope this rear lasts longer than the last one or I am going back the the recap Tomahawk tires, I would get 5 to 6 K out of a rear. |

I have a rear Raven (4000 miles) with the stock Sync on front(14000 miles) It does "hunt around a bit like Buellhusker says but still a good tire. I don't have a substantial amount of tread left like I thought I would though... |

Anyone run the 006? Any hunting with those? Also, any issues with use on the 1125 vs the XB9? Thinking in the end might just get a set of the 006 and 009 or 011 and giving them a try. Probably the only way to find out if I like them or not, but since I still have the 2CT's on both my bikes with plenty of tread left and 2 sets of Pilot Powers waiting to go it will be a bit before I can try them. Information gather for now. (Message edited by cataract2 on February 23, 2011) |
