Beat me too it Indy! The RR is probably 99% the same as the RS, but they will find something to complain about and say its a cheaterbike, like the fact that there aren't 50000 sitting in dealer showrooms, or they will compare it to a stock GSXR and complain how the RS is closer to being a race bike.
There was mention made that the RS has thicker base gaskets to reduce compression some....a high compression street engine does not at all like low rpm/high throttle openings at all...detonation city on pump gas.
They do make a replacement motor for XB/sportsters and with Erik Buell Racing involvement could easily produce aircooled motor that would be better than what they were getting from HD.
Who cares, critics are just just, critics. They state their opinion and it really has no more value than any of ours. Its like movie critics - if you base your opinion of what to go see because of what some stranger says then youre a moron. Everyone has different tastes.
They wont say cheater bike. If Erik does what the AMA says he has to do (12 bikes, 100 by dec 31) then its legal. He's jumped through the hoops, there will be no way they can say anything about that.
If they complain about lack of pass pegs or suspension, well I doubt they will, lots of italian goodness comes like that.
Truthfully I think we might be seeing a new page in Buell history - positive stuff in the media. Truth be told, they let the 1125R out too quickly to press, with fueling issues and hot foot etc, didnt help. But everyone liked it other than that. Now its more power. Lighter. BETTER.
Try as E.B.R. may, there are sure to be problems. I DON"T CARE..........as long as it hands everybody their ass along the way.$40K is a bargain compared to the Buell XBRR!
If the press is smart, they'll equate the teething pains of the 1125 to the HD ownership and bring-to-market-pressure.
But...that's a big "if".
I have no doubt the 1190 will be properly sorted. Erik's a smart guy, he knows what's riding on this. And...HE'S in charge now. If it wasn't ready, I'm sure he wouldn't have released it.
See...it's his company and his choice now. He can do that
I agree with Hybrid - Any success by Erik will lead to a rush of bandwagon jumpers! Hell, I saw an hour long tv show on how hard Michael Jordan has it trying to compete with factory teams. Would be nice to see one on Buell but it might have to be a bit longer!
I am curious about the S&S involvement. Me too. It sounds like Erik Buell Racing is getting stock 1125 motors from Rotax, so maybe S&S are being sub-contracted to do the modifications to 1190RS spec as a batch? Or maybe the mention of S&S is with regard to a future project? Or maybe both.
