I am wondering if anyone if anyone can point me in a direction. I have a 2002 X1 white lightning and I am having problems with the muffler coming apart very often. Has anyone have any ideas??? The bike has 20,000 miles on the clock and has a V&H slip-on of a muffler. Any ideas would be appreciated!!! THANK YOU !!!! Paul |

Paul, your best bet is to peruse the Knowledge Vault. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/3598.html?1295921562 First off, you're not alone, I've read plenty of posts about your problem. Sorry I'm not much help, I have an XB and they don't have this problem. Best of luck! |

I might have a lead on a used V&H slip on if you want to go back with a V&H. |

If it is a ssr2 muffler get a new muffler. I had a carbon fiber one and it disintegrated in 750 miles. Then i had a supertrap muffler it was great except it was really heavy. Now i have a D&D system and i love it. |

Yep it is a ssr2 and it's on the way out!! I'm going to order a supertrapp in a few weeks and try that. Thanks for all the fast replies! |

First, the exhaust system on a tuber has to be assembled and tightened so that there is minimum stress on all the joints, especially the heads at the exhaust ports. Things are moving with the isolastic engine mounts, and it needs to be both rigidly held to keep from leaving, and still allowed to vibe. That solves most problems. After that it seems to be voodoo. Some bikes natural vibe lines up bad with a particular system, and it cracks all the time. The knowledge vault has gigabytes of stuff on this subject. Grab a beverage and scan it, lots of good advice. I've got a Wileyco Ti slip on, ( nearly massless ) loud, good flow. It's really just a glasspack. |

Best solution I've found is a gutted stock can. |
