No_rice, Trolls come and go, some find pleasure in being a problem for others as "Monty" is showing so clearly. I have a tendency to jack threads and turn them from the original post, I will endeavor to keep my posts more specific to the thread topic. I have been a bit frustrated with the general flavour here with all the politics and religion as well, which has lead me to be more confrontational with those who seem to be picking fights... I'll try not to be baited by them, perhaps if ignored they will loose interest and go away. Anyway, now that I've read all four pages of posts I concur whole heartedly. |

Smoked mullet and cheese grits, a staple of the FL panhandle.... I never touch the stuff and Ken hit the nail on the head.... I always get strange looks from the folks that were raised here when I turn it down at a cook out. |

I'll try some the next time I'm in the Panhandle. Having lived in rural Alaska, food can be an adventure, or an acwquired taste. Seal flippers, stink heads, pickled kelp, whistle pigs, badarki, blubber on the half shell . . . smoked mullet will be high cuisine. |

Don't forget to try the boiled green peanuts from the back of a pickup on a roadside somewhere while you're here. Mostly they sell cajun or just salted......I stick to the salted. |

Damn - I used to sell those on the side of the road in Florida, Daytona area for a bit of pocket money - only difference between Cajun and Salted is a bottle of Tobasco sauce while cooking - lol - the Spanish peanuts where the best to use, though Georgia peanuts where also used - depended on supply - lol they are a very good thing with beer - lol EZ |

Everyone north of the Mason Dixon NEEDS to try boiled peanuts. Weird at first, then more addictive than meth-laced PCP. Love em. |

In the US we make do - there's always something we can eat - lol - if you want to make a batch for home - just get some raw peanuts, and low boil them up in a sea-salt water mix for 48 hours or so, then serve with beer - you can eat shell and all - good eating! EZ |

This is the favoured local 'delicacy'. Doesn't work for me. Co-pilot loves it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitebait#New_Zealand _Whitebait The other is the Hangi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C4%81ngi Which I've tried twice and both times had a kerosene flavour. Not evident when done properly they assure me. |

When Maori (New Zealand's indigenous people) first arrived in New Zealand from tropical Polynesia, they brought with them a number of food plants, including kumara (sweet potato), taro, ti plants, as well as dogs and rats which were also eaten. Sounds yummy |

We did the Hangi thing many years ago in Little Rock courtesy of a NZ friend of mine named Mitch. It was a rugby club "do" for the American's. Pete(an Aussie) butchered the pig. Mitch made the fire pit & supervised the cooking. I supplied the beer & moral support to the workers. Everyone commented on the "gamey" flavour of the pork. Unfortunately, it tasted of kerosene to me! Fun times. |
